About Our Client
Our client is a leading international specialty insurer looking to strengthen its European Financial Lines platform through the appointment of a Senior Financial Lines Underwriter based in Brussels.
Job Description
As Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting, developing and managing a portfolio of Financial Lines business across Europe, with a particular focus on:
- Management Liability (D&O)
- Financial Institutions
- FinTech
- Professional Indemnity and related Financial Lines products
You will inherit an active portfolio and immediately assume responsibility for business currently written across several Northern European jurisdictions
Additional European territories will be targeted as the portfolio continues to expand.
Working closely with senior underwriting leadership in London, you will:
- Underwrite new and renewal business.
- Develop profitable broker relationships throughout Europe.
- Drive portfolio growth and diversification.
- Contribute to underwriting strategy and product development.
- Support the future recruitment and development of a local underwriting team.
- Act as a key market representative across brokers, partners and clients.

Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Evaluate, price and underwrite new business and renewals.
- Assess Financial Institutions, FinTech and Management Liability exposures.
- Make underwriting decisions within delegated authority levels.
- Structure competitive solutions while maintaining technical discipline.
- Monitor portfolio profitability and performance.
- Identify growth opportunities across existing and new territories.
- Contribute to product enhancement and underwriting innovation.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure best underwriting practices.
Business Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers throughout Europe.
- Develop and execute territory-specific distribution strategies.
- Identify opportunities for expansion into additional European markets.
- Participate in broker meetings, conferences and market events.
- Deliver presentations and training sessions to brokers.
- Increase market visibility and strengthen the company's reputation in Financial Lines.
Leadership & Team Development
- Act as a senior technical resource within the business.
- Mentor and support junior underwriters as the team grows.
- Contribute to underwriting governance and best practices.
- Participate in strategic planning and budgeting exercises.
- Assist in building and developing a future Brussels-based underwriting team.
The Successful Applicant
We are open to considering both:
- Experienced Financial Institutions Underwriters
- D&O / Management Liability specialists
- Financial Lines Underwriters with broad multi-line expertise
Required Experience
- Several years' underwriting experience within Financial Lines.
- Strong expertise in at least one of the following:
- Financial Institutions
- D&O / Management Liability
- FinTech
- Proven record of profitable underwriting performance.
- Experience developing broker relationships and generating new business.
- Strong commercial awareness alongside technical underwriting capability.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of a portfolio.
- Comfortable operating in a lean and entrepreneurial environment.
Preferred Experience
- Cross-border European underwriting experience.
- Existing broker network within continental Europe.
- Experience helping launch or build underwriting portfolios.
- Previous exposure to SME and Mid-Market Financial Lines business.
Languages
English is required.
Additional European languages would be highly valuable, particularly French or Dutch.
