Brussel Hoofdstad, Belgique Flip GmbH Temps plein 90 000 € - 150 000 € Contrat

We are looking for a Legal Lead to raise the legal bar at Payflip. You'll be our first legal hire and the in-house point of contact for every product- and client-related legal question, from social and tax law to social security. Not only at the finish line, but at the table from the very start.

Where you fit in

Payflip started as a flexible rewards tool. Today, we're becoming Belgium's salary super app: one platform where companies and people manage their salaries and benefits. Every one of those products sits directly on top of Belgian tax and social (security) law. Each benefit comes with its own RSZ rules, fiscal treatment and joint committee constraints, and getting it wrong has real financial consequences for employers and employees.

That's why legal questions come in daily: from prospects, from clients and from our own product team. Today, they land with a bunch of different people across the company. As we grow, we want one person who owns legal quality.

You'll work closely with our Sales, Customer Success, Service and Support teams, who come to you with the hard questions, and with our product squads, who build with you. As our first legal hire, you won't have a legal team around you, but you'll have plenty of salary-savvy colleagues to spar with.

Your mission

Raise the quality and consistency of Payflip's legal answers. Concretely, your job is fourfold:

Own the hard questions. When a lead or client asks a legal question that our commercial or service teams can't answer, it lands with you. You come back with a clear position and a risk assessment, not an "it depends".

Sit at the product table, from the start. You're the legal point of contact for our product team, both proactively and reactively. You don't just double-check what product has already decided: you help shape it. Say a large prospect wants to put a special premium into their flex plan. Who is entitled to it? How is it calculated? What changes with someone's working regime, and what happens at exit? You map that out before we start building, and you pressure-test features, flows, calculations and product copy against HR, tax and social security law before they ship.

Build Payflip's legal brain. You build and own our internal, AI-fuelled legal database: current, structured and usable by non-lawyers. The goal: Payflip AI answers most recurring legal questions correctly, so your time goes to the questions that really need you.

Own the relationship with our external law firms. You filter, frame and elevate the questions that truly need outside counsel, and translate the answers back into clear internal guidance.

The tricky part? Bringing together what the rule says, what the market does, what the client expects and how Payflip looks at salary, and turning that into one answer a client can act on.

To be clear: this is not a corporate or commercial contracting role, and not an HR (people) role. The focus is substantive HR law (social, tax and social security law) applied to our product and our clients.

After 12 months, we'd love to see:

  • Our internal legal database live and adopted, with Payflip AI answering the majority of recurring legal questions at a 90% accuracy rate

  • Escalated lead and client questions answered within 24 hours, with a clear position and risk assessment

  • All escalations to external law firms routed through you, with one framing, and external legal spend staying flat while we grow

  • A working legal review loop with product: no feature ships with an unresolved legal risk

About you

You would be a good fit with our team if most of this sounds like you:

  • 3-5 years of advisory experience in Belgian HR law. At a law firm, consultancy, social secretariat or a Big 4 employment/reward practice, with a proven track record advising clients on social, tax and social security matters. Now you're ready to move in-house at a scaling SaaS company.

  • Solid, opinionated expertise. You know social law, tax law and social security inside out, and you have a view on how to apply them.

  • Pragmatic, not a rule-keeper. You give a workable answer with a clear risk position. You translate Payflip's stance on salary and market practice into concrete steps for clients, not vague legal summaries. Managing risk shouldn't mean blocking product or commercial decisions.

  • You make legal complexity simple. Clear, actionable answers for non-lawyers are your thing. You're just as comfortable in front of a prospect or client as in a product discussion.

  • Tech-minded. You're comfortable turning legal rules into structured logic, working alongside product and engineering, and using AI and tooling to scale legal work. You'd rather productise knowledge than an
