Offer Description

As senior lecturer your appointment is divided equally between research (50%) and education (50%).
As a researcher, you work with colleagues to build and supervise a group of PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers.
You participate and strengthen the research culture of the campus through seminars, symposia and collaborative initiatives. You disseminate research outcomes through artistic presentations, performances, publications and other relevant platforms for artistic research.
You generate research output of international caliber and attract external funding for additional research. The status of special guest lecturer in the arts allows you to act as a supervisor for doctorates in the Arts and research projects within KU Leuven. Your teaching assignment includes teaching tasks within the Fine Arts program. The assignment is broader than teaching, supervising and evaluating students. Together with colleagues, you develop teaching and learning activities, tailored to the student audience and within the context of the curriculum and the profile of the program. You also actively contribute to the quality of the program, and you are an ambassador for LUCA with regard to prospective students and alumni.
You design and deliver teaching that introduces students to a wide range of artistic and theoretical perspectives, including non
- Western, Indigenous, diasporic, and marginalized voices.
Scientific, social and internal services are also part of the mission, as well as professionalization and international networking.
Finally, you are also expected to take on a leading role within LUCA at certain times.
You have a doctorate.
You have extensive experience leading artistic research.
Your research is internationally published and you have experience in applying for external research funding.
Your artistic practice begins with situated enquiries and engages with interconnections rooted in specific locations, materials and/or histories. You have an artistic practice that has tangible outcomes and could span several mediaYour artistic and theoretical practice critically reflects on dominant Western frameworks while drawing on diverse cultural, epistemological, and artistic traditions.
You have a broad international network.
You bring perspectives that can activate diversity, equity and inclusion.
You have social and educational skills, you are collegial and communicative, and motivated to continuously develop your expertise.
You act respectfully and with integrity, in line with LUCA’s code of conduct. You contribute to an inclusive work and study environment, you are open to different opinions, and value diversity between individuals and groups as an asset.
You are able to teach in Dutch (C1) or English (B1). If necessary, you are willing to further develop your skills in both languages. Those who do not yet speak Dutch commit to achieving level B2 within five years. LUCA offers the necessary training opportunities for this.
You are willing to relocate to Belgium. The education and research community is based in Brussels.
You are loyal and endorse LUCA’s mission, vision and policy. This vacancy is for a statutory appointment of indefinite duration for 100% vacant position with the rank of "docent (OP3)" at LUCA School of Arts. A tenured position can be applied for in due course. In addition, you will acquire the status of special guest lecturer in the arts within KU Leuven for a first term of five years.
The remuneration is paid in salary scale 528. Commuting by public transport or by bicycle is reimbursed, you get a teacher's card, discounts through joint purchase, and the option to take out hospitalization insurance at a favorable rate.
