Key Responsibilities Of The Role
- As lead engineer you will manage all engineering functions on the project and provide technical support and direction to the engineering team.
- Identify, undertake and manage key detailed design tasks.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all project stakeholders.
- Issue weekly/monthly progress reports on all engineering activities and attend internal review meetings.
- Information reporting will be an essential activity to ensure activity targets/deadlines are met to support the project team. An Engineering Task Log will be generated and managed by the Engineering Lead.
- Familiarise with Design/IFC specifications and drawings to fully understand the scope of the Project works. Oversee the coordination process to transform design information into full installation drawings by BIM personnel ensuring spec compliance and adhering to schedule priorities. This will require generation/management of Requests for Information (RFI).
- Manage BIM priorities – support the team to develop modular concepts, typical fabrication details and isometric generation, and release for construction. Validate materials/assets within the model and verify them for construction. Change management is a critical process to be understood and controlled.
- Evaluate and promote the use of new engineering practices and processes to enhance delivery time of the project.
- Familiarise with the project schedule and ensure engineering activities do not impact the schedule (e.g., procurement).
- Manage the technical submittal and associated approvals.
- Prepare subcontract and supplier tender packages in conjunction with the Project QS.
- Assess subcontract and supplier tender returns for technical compliance with design intent specifications.
- Manage material procurement using the Engineering Materials Report (EMR) by producing material take‑offs, identifying lead times and field need dates.
- Attend project meetings as required.
- Manage sub‑contractors and ensure adequate information flow to keep works in line with the Project Schedule and weekly meeting minutes.
- Assist the construction team in managing the quality needs for the project on site, providing guidance to ensure compliance with all relevant standards, codes and specifications. This will include all site activities associated with validation and hand‑over to the client.
- Manage the Construction Work Packs process from development, implementation, and handover. This onsite support assists the construction management team.
- Ensure works are installed in accordance with project specifications and the Project QA plan (e.g., pre‑agreed benchmarking).
- Prepare and agree on project completion criteria and close‑out documents.
- You will support and coach all engineers assigned to the project team; their development is crucial to our organization and industry.
Essential Criteria For The Role
- 7 years’ experience working with a recognised electrical contractor.
- Third‑level qualification in electrical engineering.
- Excellent organisational and project planning skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
- Excellent negotiation, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- Proficient in the use of Navisworks and database systems related to engineering functions.
- Ability to manage workload and priorities.
