As Functional Safety Architect, you will own the functional safety strategy for key vehicle functions and control units in the electrified transmission domain. You will guide engineering teams in translating safety goals into robust technical solutions and ensure that safety is consistently addressed from concept through series production.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Define and maintain the functional safety concept for e‑drive and transmission systems, in line with ISO 26262 and project safety goals.
- Lead and coordinate safety analyses (HARA, FTA, FMEA/DFMEA, FMEDA) at system, subsystem and ECU level for hardware and software.
- Derive safety requirements from hazard and risk assessments and ensure their correct allocation to system, hardware, software and supplier deliverables.
- Review and challenge system and software architectures to ensure that safety mechanisms, redundancies and diagnostics are properly implemented.
- Support functional safety engineers and specialists in planning and executing safety activities across the development lifecycle.
- Ensure that safety requirements are correctly captured, traced and verified, from concept design through validation and release.
- Collaborate with suppliers to align on safety concepts, requirements and evidence, and ensure that supplier solutions meet project safety objectives.
- Monitor functional safety compliance, consolidate safety work products and contribute to the safety case and release documentation.
- Provide input to functional safety processes, methods and guidelines, and support continuous improvement of the organization’s FuSa framework.
- Act as technical authority for functional safety topics within the project, supporting design reviews, risk assessments and decision‑making.
- Work closely with systems engineering, hardware, software, quality and reliability teams to ensure a coherent safety strategy.
- Communicate safety status, risks and mitigation plans to project management and stakeholders in a clear and structured manner.

- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of functional safety, preferably in the automotive domain.
- Solid understanding of ISO 26262 and its application to complex vehicle systems and control units.
- Knowledge of other functional safety standards (e.g. IEC 61508, ISO 25119, EN 5012x) is an advantage.
- Formal training or certification in functional safety (e.g. ISO 26262 Functional Safety Engineer/Professional) is a plus.
Experience & Skills
- Extensive experience with safety concepts, hazard analysis and risk assessment for embedded automotive systems.
- Hands‑on experience with safety analysis techniques such as HARA, DFMEA, FTA, FMEDA at system and component level.
- Strong background in systems engineering, with good understanding of hardware and software design principles for automotive ECUs.
- Experience with architecture modeling tools and requirements management tools (e.g. SysML/UML tools, Polarion, DOORS or similar).
- Proven ability to interpret and refine requirements from early design phases through industrialization and production.
- 5+ years of progressive responsibility in vehicle system architectures, control systems or functional safety engineering.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written); additional languages are an asset.
