We’re looking for a Senior Data & AI Engineer to take ownership of building a modern data foundation from the ground up and developing AI and Machine Learning capabilities on top of it.

This is a genuine founding Data & AI role. You’ll have the opportunity to define the architecture, governance and technical direction rather than simply maintaining an established platform.

The Role

You’ll take ownership of centralising and structuring data within Databricks, creating the foundations needed for analytics, Machine Learning and future Generative AI use cases.

You’ll combine technical leadership with hands‑on engineering, working closely with engineering teams, tech leads, product, operations and compliance.

What You’ll Be Doing

Design and build the company's data lake architecture and pipelines
Establish Databricks as the central data platform
Design and implement Medallion Architecture
Establish data governance using Unity Catalog and Delta Lake
Build reliable data pipelines, schema designs and automated data-quality processes
Develop predictive Machine Learning models and AI-driven use cases
Prepare data infrastructure for Generative AI, including RAG, AI agents and LLM fine‑tuning
Help transform operational data into useful product and customer insights
Define the wider technical vision for Data & AI while remaining hands‑on with implementation
Work with stakeholders across technical and non‑technical teams

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

Strong experience with Databricks
Hands‑on experience with Unity Catalog and Delta Lake
Strong understanding of data governance within data lake environments
Experience building Medallion Architecture and data pipelines
Strong Python and SQL skills
Experience with schema design and automated data quality
Experience using data for AI and Machine Learning use cases
Familiarity with cloud‑based data platforms

Nice to have:

Experience with LLMs
LLM fine‑tuning experience
Exposure to RAG and AI agents

The Person

This role suits someone who enjoys ownership and building from scratch. You should be comfortable setting technical direction while still getting involved directly with the engineering work.

You’ll need to be solution‑oriented, comfortable receiving feedback and confident communicating across different teams and departments.
