Service Description
The Project Engineer - Substations will contribute to electrical infrastructure projects involving high-voltage substations and lines across 380, 220, 150, 70 and 36 kV networks. As Project Engineer, you will act as a key link between the Project Leader and the engineering organisation, taking responsibility for the technical development of projects within a multidisciplinary team. You will ensure the consistency and quality of the design while monitoring the functionality of the project and taking proactive measures to ensure delivery within the agreed schedule and scope. Your responsibilities will include:
- Working closely with the Project Leader and fellow Project Engineers. The Project Engineer has a primarily technical focus, while the Project Leader has an organisational focus within the project.
- Being actively involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility and conceptual studies through to project completion.
- Acting as a key link between the design team, technical experts and Project Leader.
- Contributing to the technical development of the project scope and design, including carrying out various preliminary technical studies.
- Taking a leading role within the engineering team, ensuring the effective integration of different disciplines into a coherent technical solution.
- Managing interfaces between the different technical disciplines.
- Monitoring the engineering schedule and coordinating it with the Project Leader.
- Supporting and guiding the design team during the detailed design phase, ensuring studies are delivered to the required quality and agreed scope.
- Providing technical support to the Project Leader during the execution phase.
- Communicating and reporting on project progress.
Project Engineering Disciplines
Within the Engineering department, there are several Project Engineering disciplines, each with its own technical specialism: PE Substation The focus of this role is on HV components within substations, utilities and building equipment, as well as the distribution of low-voltage power supplies, including 400 VAC and 110 VDC systems. PE PAC Focuses on protection and automation systems. PE Lines Focuses on high-voltage lines and pylons connecting substations. PE Civil Works Focuses on civil engineering and construction works. The PE Substation function is responsible for integrating these different disciplines, systems and processes within a project. We are therefore looking for someone with:
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with the ability to understand complex problems and develop solutions in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.
- The ability to consider multiple factors including safety, constructability, maintainability and operational requirements.
- Sufficient maturity and confidence to lead coordination meetings between different technical disciplines and act as the Engineering department's point of contact for internal stakeholders.
- Depending on experience, these responsibilities may be performed independently or with appropriate guidance and support. The company provides an extensive training and development programme.
The Project Engineer - Substation will work within the Infrastructure Projects department. Following the initial training period, the role can be performed remotely up to three days per week. Projects and associated sites are divided into four geographical regions: Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest. The role can therefore be organised effectively between project sites, which will need to be visited during the preparation and construction phases, the company's office in Schaerbeek, and home working. This position covers projects within the Northeast region.
