Brussel Hoofdstad, Belgique Greenpeace European Unit Temps plein 16 000 € - 19 000 €/an

Greenpeace European Unit is recruiting a Brussels-based EU digital communications officer to help Greenpeace build a stronger and more visible digital presence around the issues shaping Europe.

The EU digital communications officer will build Greenpeace’s visibility and engagement around the European issues that matter to our campaigns, using digital channels to reach people where political conversations are happening. The role will follow the fast-moving debates and news coming out of Brussels, identify where Greenpeace has something meaningful to say, and turn these moments into sharp digital content.

The successful candidate will create content for Greenpeace’s digital channels, working across formats and platforms to make complex EU issues accessible and relevant to our audiences. They will also look across Greenpeace’s global campaign work for stories, research, campaign moments and other content with a strong European dimension, and bring these into the Brussels conversation. The role will therefore work in both directions: bringing European stories to Greenpeace audiences, and bringing stories from the Greenpeace network to Brussels audiences. Finally, the digital officer will support the visibility of Greenpeace leadership in Brussels, raising their profile as credible voices in the European ecosystem.

This is a 50% position with a focused scope: to help Greenpeace respond quickly to emerging Brussels issues, and to give visibility to global work that is relevant to the European debate.

Main Responsibilities

1. Create digital content on emerging EU Issues and EU-relevant global work

Monitor the Brussels political and media conversation for emerging issues and debates with digital potential, working with other communications colleagues to identify where Greenpeace should engage. At the same time, scan Greenpeace’s global project work for stories, moments or outputs with a strong EU angle. Turn these opportunities into sharp, shareable digital content – from social posts and short videos to graphics and visual commentary, using humour, imagery and framing that expose greenwashing, corporate influence or political failure, in line with Greenpeace's creative campaigning tradition. Given the part-time nature of this role, prioritise carefully and agree capacity and trade-offs with other communications colleagues.

2. Raise leadership and organisational visibility

Support the directors’ digital visibility in Brussels, developing content and formats that build their profile as credible, engaging voices on EU policy and politics. Work with other communications colleagues to identify moments where leadership visibility is best built through digital channels, and produce the content, clips, social commentary, behind-the-scenes formats, that make that possible.

3. Build network and consistency

Coordinate with other communications colleagues to ensure digital content stays consistent with Greenpeace's institutional voice and identity in Brussels, while adding your creative edge to how that voice shows up online. Build and maintain a small working network of Brussels-based creatives, designers and digital contacts who can be called on for higher-production pieces.

Skills and Qualifications

  • +3 years of experience in digital content creation, social media or creative communications, ideally with some grounding in a campaigning or political context.
  • Strong instinct for turning a fast-moving political or media moment into shareable, visibility-building digital content.
  • Genuine creative and visual skills: comfortable producing short video, graphics or social-first content without heavy production support.
  • Political awareness of the Brussels EU bubble, able to read which emerging debates matter and why.
  • Ability to spot EU relevance in global project work that wasn't written with a Brussels audience in mind, and reshape it accordingly.
  • Strong prioritisation skills and comfort working autonomously within a part-time role, with an ability to focus limited hours on the highest-value work.
  • Excellent written English; French or another EU language is a strong asset.
  • A collaborative working style, able to build trust quickly with a small, close-knit Brussels team and a wider distributed network, while respecting the boundaries of a role focused on content rather than media relationships
