We are currently seeking a maintenance engineer with direct experience in engine design. The role covers the full development cycle, from concept definition and detailed mechanical design through prototyping, testing, validation and production support. You will collaborate closely with systems engineering, simulation, testing, manufacturing, suppliers, quality and project management.

The mission is to develop robust, manufacturable and high-performing engine solutions that meet functional, reliability, cost, safety and programme requirements.

Key responsibilities

Engine concept and architecture

  • Develop and evaluate engine concepts, mechanical layouts and component architectures based on technical and programme requirements.
  • Translate system-level requirements into mechanical specifications, design inputs, interfaces and verification criteria.
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical trade-off studies covering performance, strength, thermal behaviour, packaging, weight, durability, cost and manufacturability.

Mechanical design and engineering

  • Create and review 3D CAD models, mechanical assemblies, technical drawings, tolerance schemes and bills of materials.
  • Design and optimise engine components such as housings, shafts, bearings, seals, rotating assemblies, lubrication and cooling interfaces, mounts and structural parts.
  • Apply engineering principles relating to material selection, fits and tolerances, fastening, sealing, lubrication, thermal expansion, vibration and fatigue.
  • Ensure that designs are suitable for manufacturing, assembly, inspection, maintenance and servicing.

Analysis, prototyping and validation

  • Work with CAE and simulation specialists on structural, thermal, vibration, fatigue and dynamic analyses.
  • Translate simulation results and technical findings into practical design improvements.
  • Define prototype builds, design-verification plans, instrumentation requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Support engine and component testing, analyse test results and investigate mechanical failures.
  • Lead or contribute to structured root-cause analyses and corrective design actions.
  • Document design decisions and ensure technical requirements are verified through calculation, inspection, analysis or testing.

Industrialisation and lifecycle support

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams and suppliers on DFM/DFA, tooling, process capability, component quality and cost optimisation.
  • Support supplier technical reviews, first-article inspections and the resolution of technical non-conformities.
  • Manage engineering changes and configuration updates while maintaining traceability between requirements, drawings, specifications and verification evidence.
  • Provide technical support during prototype, pilot and series production.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of field, maintenance or service-related issues.

Technical leadership and collaboration

  • Lead or contribute to design reviews, DFMEA sessions, risk assessments and technical decision forums.
  • Coordinate mechanical interfaces with controls, electrical systems, fuel or energy supply, cooling, exhaust, vehicle or machine integration and testing teams.
  • Communicate technical risks, design decisions, trade-offs and required actions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering standards, reusable design knowledge and good engineering practices.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to less-experienced engineers where required.

Candidate profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.
  • Typically at least five years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Direct experience in the design and development of engines or closely related rotating machinery is essential.
  • Strong experience with 3D CAD, mechanical assemblies, technical drawings, GD&T, materials, fits and tolerances, seals, bearings and bolted joints.
  • Practical knowledge of design calculations, DFMEA, root-cause analysis, tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA and design verification.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds, component testing, engine test programmes, failure analysis and validation against defined requirements.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with simulation, controls, testing, manufacturing, supplier, quality and project teams.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is required.
  • Mechanical insight: Understands how geometry, materials, loads, heat, friction, lubrication, vibration and tolerances interact
