Freelance Database Security Engineer | High-Impact New Function | Belgium
We're supporting a major enterprise in the creation of a new Database Security function, offering a rare opportunity to shape security standards, influence strategy, and make a visible impact across the organisation from day one.
This is a highly visible freelance assignment where you'll work closely with security, platform, database, and cloud teams to strengthen the security of critical data platforms across both on-premises and cloud environments.
Key responsibilities:
- Secure SQL, NoSQL, and cloud-native database platforms
- Design and implement database security controls, standards, and best practices
- Drive improvements around access management, RBAC, privileged access, encryption, and key management
- Enhance logging, monitoring, auditing, and incident detection capabilities
- Embed security into platform engineering, provisioning, CI/CD, backup, and recovery processes
- Act as a trusted advisor to technical and business stakeholders
We're looking for:
- Strong experience in database security across on-premises and cloud environments
- Expertise in SQL/NoSQL platforms and data security principles
- Experience with IAM, privileged access, encryption, monitoring, and governance
- The ability to translate complex risks into practical and scalable security solutions
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Fluency in both Dutch and English
