IOGP Europe is seeking a junior data analyst to support its policy and advocacy work in Brussels, offering an early-career opportunity in the European energy sector.

Position summary

IOGP Europe is recruiting a junior data analyst in Brussels. The analyst will primarily track oil, gas and LNG markets and European upstream activity, research topics such as CCS, hydrogen, renewables, electricity market, methane emissions and carbon markets, and turn the findings into charts and briefings supporting our EU advocacy and marketing activities. The position also offers valuable exposure to EU advocacy work and a broad range of EU policy files, providing an excellent opportunity to develop a practical understanding of the EU policy-making process.

We are looking for a recent graduate with strong Excel and data visualization skills, and a genuine interest in the oil and gas industry and European energy policy.

Key responsibilities:

• Track oil, gas and LNG markets (production, trade flows, prices, security of supply), and European upstream activity such as exploration, discoveries, and new projects.
• Track CCS developments and in particular CO2 storage projects across Europe.
• Carry out research on energy and policy topics such as carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen, electricity market, methane emissions mitigation, carbon markets and infrastructure.
• Analyse and visualise findings, producing charts, maps and presentations for policy and communication use.
• Maintain IOGP's Europe online data room and related datasets, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Coordinate with the IOGP Secretariat in London on data analysis.

Qualifications:

Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Engineering, Data Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field.

Languages: Fluent in English. Knowledge of other European languages is a strong asset.

Skills:

• Strong Excel skills; command of a programming language (R, Python, etc.) is a plus.
• Knowledge of data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Flourish).
• Familiarity with upstream data provider platforms (e.g., Rystad Energy, Wood Mackenzie) is a plus.
• Strong interest in and prior knowledge of the energy market, oil and gas industry, familiarity with low-carbon technologies (CCS, hydrogen, etc.).
• Ability to communicate findings clearly, in writing and orally, to non-technical audiences.
