In-House Counsel

About the Role

Our client is establishing a new remote legal department and is seeking a dedicated In-House Counsel specializing in Compliance to be a foundational member. This role is pivotal in shaping and implementing robust compliance programs across the organization, ensuring adherence to all applicable laws and industry regulations. You will be responsible for developing policies, conducting risk assessments, and providing strategic advice to leadership on compliance matters. This is a unique opportunity for a proactive legal professional to build a compliance framework from the ground up in a fully remote setting, contributing to the company's ethical operations and sustainable growth, and playing a key role in the proactive management of legal and regulatory risks.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive compliance programs and policies.
• Conduct regular compliance risk assessments and audits across various business units.
• Provide legal advice on regulatory requirements and interpret relevant legislation.
• Investigate compliance breaches and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver compliance training to employees across the organization.
• Stay abreast of changes in legislation and regulatory landscape affecting the business.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court with a strong focus on regulatory compliance and corporate law.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in in-house legal or compliance roles.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing compliance frameworks.
• Excellent understanding of South African corporate law and relevant industry regulations.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business solutions.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and effectively in a remote work environment.
