Senior Hardware Engineer / Hardware Lead

Location: Ghent, Belgium (on-site)

Departement: R&D l Reports to: CTO

At XEOS, you'll own the complete hardware domain of a medical imaging platform that helps surgeons make better decisions during surgery. You'll work on technology that directly impacts patient outcomes while helping shape the next generation of our products. If you're a hands-on senior hardware engineer who thinks in systems rather than just circuits, enjoys taking ownership, and wants to build technology that truly matters—we'd love to meet you.

OUR MISSION - Connect the power of molecular imaging to the point of surgery

At XEOS, we are transforming surgical oncology through innovative intraoperative imaging solutions. Founded in Belgium in 2019, we developed the world’s first specimen PET-CT scanner, the AURA 10 PET-CT, empowering surgeons to make more informed decisions during surgery, ultimately improving patient outcomes. Today, our AURA 10 is already used in leading hospitals, and we're now entering an exciting new phase of growth with the development of our next-generation platform. We're a medtech company driven by Transparency, Dedication, Agility and Excellence. Values that shape our dynamic and collaborative culture. We believe great people thrive when they're given ownership, trust and the freedom to build. It's an opportunity to strengthen our hardware capabilities and help shape the future of XEOS.

YOUR MISSION - What you’ll achieve

You’ll become the technical owner of our hardware platform. You’ll ensure the continued reliability of AURA 10 while driving the development of future hardware platforms and generations in our technology. From requirements and architecture through verification, validation and Design History Files, you’ll own the complete hardware lifecycle. You’ll lead the technical relationship with our engineering partners and contract manufacturers, driving quality, manufacturing readiness and continuous improvement. Working closely with our team, you lay the foundation for hardware: a high-output individual contributor today, while establishing the processes and engineering culture that will support the growth of hardware tomorrow. By joining our team, you help XEOS bring peace of mind to patients by pushing the limits of imaging precisely where it matters. #WeAreXEOS

YOUR Responsibilities - What you’ll do

  • Own the hardware design history file (DHF) for AURA 10 and future AURA platforms, ensuring full traceability from requirements through V&V under ISO 13485 design controls
  • Lead electronics design and review (mixed-signal PCB, PET readout electronics, power, embedded hardware-firmware interface)
  • Own hardware bring-up, developing Python-based test and characterization scripts to validate readout electronics and detector performance
  • Define and execute hardware verification and validation plans; coordinate with the QMS and regulatory affairs function
  • Own the technical relationship with our engineering partners and contract manufacturers, including supplier audits, design reviews, and continuous improvement
  • Support hardware-related quality processes, risk management and regulatory compliance, contribute to BSI audit readiness
  • Work closely with the CTO on the hardware architecture of future AURA platforms.
  • Support technical due diligence, grant applications and strategic innovation projects.
  • In the future: participate in hiring decisions and mentoring as the hardware team grow

In reality - What your week could look like

On Monday, you're reviewing PCB layouts and discussing production yield improvements with a manufacturing partner. Tuesday is spent defining verification strategies for a new hardware feature and aligning with software engineers on an embedded interface. Later that week, you're reviewing supplier performance, updating design documentation for regulatory compliance or evaluating new detector technologies together with the CTO. On Friday, we wrap up the week together during our Weekly Dose, where we celebrate wins, share company updates and end the week as one team. No two weeks are the same, and that's exactly what makes this role exciting.

YOUR Personality & mindset - Who you are

You combine technical depth with ownership. You naturally ask "How can we build this better?" instead of "Who's responsible for this?" You're someone who enjoys solving difficult engineering challenges, takes initiative and isn't afraid to make decisions. Technically confident but intellectually humble and willing to build expertise on the job (PET physics, for example).

You also bring:

  • Systems thinker - you see how electronics, mechanics, firmware, and software interact, and don’t optimize one subsystem at the expen
