This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Photonics Design Engineer to take a lead role developing high-speed optical circuit switching (OCS) technology using an advanced integrated photonics platform.
The role
- Design innovative optical circuit switches and switching architectures
- Develop PIC optical circuits for high-speed switching demonstrators
- Explore system-level trade-offs including switching speed, insertion loss, crosstalk and scalability
- Design control-loop, bias-control and calibration strategies for fast, stable switching
- Specify the high-speed electronics required to drive and stabilise the optical switch
- Build and validate prototypes and demonstrators
- Analyse performance and feed results back into future platform development
- Work closely with business development to translate market requirements into technical solutions
Your background
- Master’s degree or above in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related discipline
- 3+ years’ experience within photonics or high-speed integrated systems
- Strong silicon photonics and PIC design experience, ideally with SOI and/or SiN platforms
- Experience with photonic/waveguide simulation and integrated circuit layout
- Understanding of high-speed electronics, feedback systems and control-loop theory
- Comfortable working across optical, electronic and system-level design
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently within a fast-moving R&D environment
- Experience with optical switching architectures, RF/microwave design or system-level modelling of communication and switching networks would be a plus
