Senior Consultant Global Indirect Tax Compliance

Join our fast growing Global Compliance and Reporting (GCR) team as a Senior Consultant in Belgium and enjoy the opportunity of working on EY’s largest multi-country client engagements. The GCR team comprises over 225 dynamic individuals spread across 13 countries and more than 20 offices, providing specialist tax, business and technology expertise to address clients’ most pressing challenges in an exciting, dynamic tax and business environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Consultant, you will work on a range of client engagements in the role of VAT Controller. You will manage the VAT/GST compliance for the entities/countries assigned to you, including:

• Acting as a single point of contact – liaise with your international clients and colleagues regarding European VAT and VAT compliance.
• Monitoring the quality of the indirect tax data and reports of your clients.
• Review and approve indirect tax returns.
• Follow up on legislative changes and business changes and the potential impacts on systems and processes.
• Identify issues and opportunities to continuously improve the VAT compliance processes.
• Coordinate VAT compliance advisory, technology and audit support.
• Work with fellow VAT controllers, reporting to your engagement Process Owner (Senior Manager or above).
• Supervise and coach more junior team members – both on and offshore.
• Actively participate in training and coaching sessions as part of your personal development plan to ensure continuous development.

Your Profile

• A Bachelor and/or Masters degree in economics, tax law, accounting or equivalent – a specialization or supplementary degree in taxation is a plus.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in EMEIA VAT compliance, either in industry or with other service providers.
• Basic understanding of other compliance activities such as statutory accounting and corporate tax compliance.
• Basic understanding of IT systems and VAT/GST reporting solutions as well as the changing legislative landscape and its impact on VAT compliance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in Dutch or French. Next to that, you are fluent in English. Any additional European language is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills across different cultures and within a virtual working environment.
