What you will do

You will test, evaluate, and helpposition novel technologies in the context of emerging and unexploredapplication domains. Working at the interface between applicationexploration and technology development, you will translate application needsinto concrete experiments, assess technology capabilities and limitations inreal-world use cases, and provide critical feedback that helps shape thedirection of next‑generation solutions.
At imec, a wide range of novelsensing and imaging technologies are being researched and prototyped, spanningdifferent maturity levels—from early proof‑of‑concepts to higher‑TRLdemonstrators. These technologies are explored across diverse applicationdomains and being integrated into various platforms such as drones,microscopes, medical devices, industrial systems, and laboratory setups.
As a Field Application Engineer,you will work closely with internal research and engineering teams as well asexternal partners to explore use cases, design and execute experiments, andvalidate novel technologies in realistic application environments. You willplay a key role in understanding application‑driven requirements andtranslating them into actionable technical insights. Delivering clear feedbackand enabling decision‑making for both application and technology development iscentral to this role.
Your hands‑on work and structuredfeedback on how novel technologies perform, where their limitations lie, andwhat future application needs may be, will directly contribute to shapingongoing and future research and development activities.
In this job, your main activities will be:

• Design,organize, and execute lab and field experiments to evaluate novel technologiesfor emerging application scenarios
• Translateapplication needs into test setups, experiments, and evaluation metrics
• Organizelive demonstrations and provide technical insights on imec technologies tointernal and external stakeholders
• Organize,execute and report on application feasibility studies.
• Document,analyse, and report experimental results, insights, and limitations
• Providestructured feedback to research, engineering, and business teams to guidetechnology development and positioning
• Collaborateclosely with multidisciplinary teams across research, engineering, AI anddata, and application domains
• Supportexternal partners in early technology exploration, evaluation, andadoption
• Championthe customer internally by discussing interesting cases with your colleagues, share the customerfeedback to the engineering teams, translate customer needs intoimprovement ideas
• Developapplication demonstrators, prototypes, scripts, tools, and supportingmaterials
• Contributeto selected application‑driven research projects through hardware-softwareintegration, data acquisition, and field experimentation
• Shareknowledge and insights internally, help building application expertisewithin the team

What do you have

• Adegree in engineering, science, or equivalent experien
