Job Description:

As an Industrial IT Systems Engineer, you own assigned systems and play a central role in managing and improving our ISA‑95 Level 1 & 2 Industrial IT landscape across the Ghent sites. You are accountable for keeping Industrial IT applications stable, secure, and compliant and for bringing new systems successfully into daily operations.

Working closely with engineering, IT, QA, cybersecurity, and external vendors, you deliver a reliable, future-proof, and continuously improving Industrial IT environment. You combine solid technical expertise with structured execution, sound judgement, and a hands‑on approach.

Tasks and Authorizations

  • Own assigned Industrial IT applications and ensure stable, compliant, and reliable operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve system issues and implement improvements that increase performance and availability.
  • Participate in a rotating weekend on‑call service to safeguard system continuity.
  • Execute and coordinate essential lifecycle activities, including configuration, monitoring, documentation, user management, patching, backup, and recovery.
  • Coordinate with IT, engineering, and vendors on system upgrades, integrations, and the deployment of new Industrial IT applications.
  • Plan and execute commissioning, testing, validation, and operational readiness activities for new or updated systems.
  • Take an active role in deviations, CAPAs, investigations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders about system health, risks, decisions, and project progress.

Qualifications

We are looking for a solid technical foundation combined with relevant professional experience and the ability to translate expertise into independent system ownership.

  • Relevant professional experience with Industrial IT, industrial automation, or related systems in a manufacturing or regulated environment.
  • Solid grasp of network fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, segmentation, and firewalls.
  • Ability to use scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python to automate routine tasks.

The skills below are not mandatory but provide a strong advantage in this role.

  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry (GxP, GAMP, qualification, etc.)
  • Knowledge of particle monitoring platforms—ideally LMS Pharma (SE Geoscada)
  • Understanding of Windows Server–based applications, including basic troubleshooting and system administration.
  • Familiarity with data historian solutions such as AVEVA PI or similar time‑series data platforms.
  • Awareness of Industrial IT cybersecurity principles (NIS2, ISA‑95, Purdue Model) is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory for user and access management.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery solutions used in Industrial IT environments.
  • Experience with Industrial IT monitoring tools, such as PRTG.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Automation, Electromechanics, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science with Industrial IT affinity — or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Typically, at least three years of relevant professional experience in Industrial IT, industrial automation, manufacturing IT, or a comparable technical environment.
