LASEA Belgium is looking for a Process Engineer (F/H/X)

Founded in 1999, LASEA provides laser micro-machining solutions to some of the world’s most prestigious companies, including the top three Swiss watchmakers, two GAFA companies, leaders in the eyewear, pharmaceutical and medical industries (intraocular, vascular and cochlear implants), as well as several big names in Silicon Valley. Our solutions are powered by KYLA™ , a software programme developed entirely in-house.

With around 180 employees, it has already installed more than 3,000 systems in over 30 countries (across 5 continents). In addition to its headquarters in Belgium (Liège Science Park), it has subsidiaries in Mons (Belgium), Bordeaux, Besançon (France), Biel (Switzerland) and San Diego (United States).

To strengthen its team, LASEA is looking for a Process Engineer to join its site in Liège (Liège Science Park).

Implementation of and active participation in R&D or internal project tasks (as defined by the Unit Manager)

  • Familiarize yourself with the topics and objectives of research projects
  • Engage in iterative technical collaboration with various partners, while tracking the progress of each iteration

Your responsibilities:

Participate in the development of :

  • The methodology to be followed to complete the assigned task
  • The test protocol: updating/adapting the “design of experiment” sheet based on the task at hand
  • The associated experimental setup
  • Solutions to a given problem
  • Technology monitoring related to the laser processes under study or the optical component used

Performing tasks :

  • From setting up the experimental setup, computer programs, mechanical design of simple parts, and processes… = all the tools needed to successfully complete the requested task
  • Alignment and calibration of the experimental setup. Assembly of standard components specific to LASEA
  • Study of laser processes on 3D parts
  • Study of the influence of thermal effects on laser processes and machines
  • Support in the development of metrology solutions
  • Development of tools to optimize laser process trajectories
  • Exploration and use of advanced tools applied to the required tasks (genetic algorithms, AI, simulations, etc.)
  • Defining and implementing simple interfaces
  • Sourcing equipment as needed for the task: requesting quotes and following up with suppliers (purchase orders are forwarded to the Unit Manager for approval)
  • Analysis of the problem (e.g., process/new optical component). Process optimization to arrive at a solution with commercial potential
  • Analysis of the results obtained
  • Dissemination of results within the company (presentation of results during the “Lunchtime Briefing”) as needed

Related Tasks :

  • Assist with knowledge transfer within LASEA
  • Provide support to the machine development and assembly teams and the after-sales service team
  • Potential contact with LASEA’s development team in France, Switzerland, or the U.S., as needed
  • Participate in the R&D department’s biweekly planning meetings, biweekly AICs, and weekly technical discussions
  • Participate in the unit’s technical meetings as needed

    Day-to-Day Compliance:

    • ISO procedures
    • Best-practice guidelines defined in R&D processes

    Your profile :

    • You have 2 to 4 years of experience in a technical or research field, ideally in optics and lasers
    • You are able to critically interpret results
    • You are comfortable working with high-tech equipment
    • You have knowledge of mechanics, industrial drafting and CAD (SolidWorks), 3D visualization, and ideally thermal analysis
    • You have knowledge of Python programming, ideally also in AI/ML
    • You are pragmatic, creative, and passionate
    • You have a strong desire to learn and to develop the potential of innovative, high-tech components
    • You have a good command of French and English; knowledge of German is a plus
    • You are meticulous, thorough, and detail-oriented
    • You are looking for a varied role, teamwork in a high-tech environment, and you enjoy taking on challenges
    • Willingness to travel within Belgium and internationally
