Networks, satellites, servers, security. Someone has to make them behave as one system.
A multinational defence organisation in Braine-l'Alleud builds deployable communication and information systems out of standard modules and services. It needs a senior solution engineer who can see the whole system at once - turning requirements into architecture, coordinating the specialists, and acting as technical owner of systems already in operational service.
What you would be doing
- Translating operational and project requirements into implementable solutions and a clear system architecture
- Applying model-based systems engineering, reusing approved building blocks and flagging the gaps where they fall short
- Running trade-off analyses across performance, interoperability, security, resilience, cost and schedule
- Acting as product owner for systems already in service: assessing changes, obsolescence and technology refresh against the whole system, and keeping its roadmap current
- Integrating contributions from networking, SATCOM and radio, compute and cloud, storage, cybersecurity and identity specialists into one coherent design
- Being the technical focal point for your projects and driving conflicting requirements to a decision
What you would bring
- A degree in systems, telecommunications, computer or electronic engineering or computer science, and around 10 years of engineering experience on complex ICT, defence, aerospace or telecoms systems
- Proven work as technical lead, lead systems engineer or solution architect
- Strong requirements engineering, interface control, traceability and system integration, verification and acceptance
- Broad technical range across networking, infrastructure, virtualisation, security, cloud, automation and communications - you understand how they interact, without needing to be the expert in each
- Experience with systems after they go live: configuration and change management, obsolescence and technical debt
- Professional English, including writing and reviewing complex technical documents
Why this one is worth a look
It is a system-level seat with real design authority, on deployable systems that have to work first time in the field.
