Your Mission

As the Engineering Manager for the Core Data Team, you will bridge the gap between people leadership, technical vision, and agile delivery. You will lead a talented team of data scientists and engineers. Their goal is to build and support the data infrastructure that is at the foundation of all the real estate data products that Immoweb provides. Your goal is to make sure your team can thrive in their mission.

You build a strong data platform team that consistently delivers trusted datasets while growing engineers and improving technical quality.

The Core Data Team Has Three Main Focus Points

• Building and maintaining all property valuation models for Belgium.
• Provide the single source of truth (SSOT) real estate data sets that are the foundation of all data products within Immoweb.
• Building and maintaining the most complete and accurate address database in Belgium, which sits at the core of all real estate data within Immoweb.

Key Responsibilities

• People Leadership & Growth
• Mentor and Coach: Cultivate a high-performing team of Data Engineers and Scientists, fostering a culture of autonomy, continuous learning, and psychological safety. You manage a team of 4-6 FTE (direct reports).
• Career Development: Define clear growth paths, set measurable OKRs, and conduct regular performance reviews to help engineers level up.
• Hiring & Scale: Profile and hire new data talent to sustainably scale the team as data demands evolve.
• Technical Strategy & Architecture
• Technical plans: In collaboration with your team members, you work out implementation plans for new features. You make sure that the plans are complete and clear before work starts.
• Data Quality & Governance: Ensure that what your team delivers is of the highest quality and actively flag where improvements can be made to infrastructure and data quality.
• Modern Data Stack Evolution: Guide architectural decisions for our AWS-centric and Snowflake infrastructure, optimizing data modeling, warehousing, and downstream analytics layers.
• Delivery & Stakeholder Collaboration
• Planning and Facilitate: You set and preserve the rhythm of meetings, removing blockers and optimizing the team’s delivery velocity. You set out the lines on what needs to be delivered each quarter and determine together with the PDT leadership team what the long-term strategy should be.
• Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with the other Engineering and Product Managers teams to turn data requirements into technical solutions. You proactively engage with other teams to highlight data availability and support.
• Resource Prioritization: Balance technical debt and operational platform scaling against immediate business and product feature requests, with roadmap and prioritisation decisions owned by the product manager.

Your success metrics are platform reliability, data freshness, pipeline SLAs, hiring goals and stakeholder satisfaction.

What You Bring

• Leadership Experience: Experience managing, leading, or mentoring engineers.
• Data Expertise: Good foundational background in Data with understanding of data modeling and cloud data warehousing principles.
• Tech Stack Alignment: Hands-on experience or architectural familiarity with:
  • Cloud Infrastructure: AWS (S3, Lambda, MySQL, OpenSearch, ECS, …).
  • Data Platforms & Modeling: Snowflake, Python, php.
  • DevOps/DataOps: Git, Terraform, and modern CI/CD setups
• Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of French or Dutch is a significant asset.
