YOUR TASKS

  • You will share responsibility for the good service of the Anaesthesia and Analgesia Service and supervising its daily clinical activities.
  • You will contribute to the full spectrum of perioperative patient care, including pre-anaesthetic assessment, anaesthetic management, postoperative monitoring and pain management.
  • You will be responsible for the proper organisation, implementation and administrative follow-up of sedation and anaesthesia in accordance with the clinic's operations.
  • You will develop sedation, anaesthesia and analgesia protocols for dogs and cats undergoing diagnostic or surgical procedures.
  • You will perform sedation and anaesthesia on dogs and cats undergoing diagnostic or surgical procedures.
  • You will supervise interns and students in performing sedation and anaesthesia on dogs and cats and in performing anaesthesia-related procedures (e.g. IV catheter placement, blood sampling, (non-inhibive) blood pressure measurement, anaesthetic monitoring, loco-regional anaesthesia, TIVA, recovery follow-up, etc.).
  • You will supervise students during anaesthesia-related skills labs.
  • You will contribute to the training and supervision of interns, residents, and veterinary students within the clinic's various educational programmes, including the supervision of research projects and Master's theses.
  • You will consult with veterinarians and specialists from other disciplines on postoperative analgesia and analgesia protocols for hospitalised dogs and cats.
  • You will actively contribute to clinical and practice-oriented research in veterinary anaesthesia, analgesia and perioperative medicine and facilitate the translation of research findings into clinical practice.
  • You will contribute to quality assurance, patient safety and the further development of anaesthesia and analgesia protocols within the clinic.
  • You will participate in the anaesthesia on-call service of the Small Animal Clinic.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You obtained a Master's degree in veterinary medicine. For degrees obtained outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence from NARIC must be submitted. Diploma requirements must be met by the date of appointment.
  • You are an ECVAA or ACVAA Diplomate, or have successfully completed a recognised residency programme in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia.
  • You have teaching experience and actively engage in continuing professional development, conferences, and other educational activities in veterinary anaesthesia, analgesia and related disciplines.
  • You have teaching and communication skills.
  • You are interested in scientific and/or project-based research and service provision.
  • You have strong interpersonal, organisational and leadership skills. You must be able to work in a team, communicate effectively with professionals from different disciplines and at different levels (specialists, veterinarians, veterinary assistants, technical staff and students), with referring veterinarians and, occasionally, with pet owners. You must have the necessary flexibility and stress resistance to change the order of tasks for yourself and others according to the needs of the service.
  • You must be able to communicate fluently in English and, if non-native, be willing to learn Dutch.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a a part-time (80%) contract of definite duration for the period from 1 year.
  • Your contract will start on 1/01/2027 at the earliest.
