For the Therapeutic Modalities department, we are looking for an (Associate) Scientist in Organic Chemistry.

Who You Are

You are a highly motivated organic chemist with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in synthetic organic chemistry. You possess a strong understanding of organic reaction mechanisms, supported by solid laboratory skills and hands‑on experience in organic synthesis. You demonstrate scientific curiosity, a proactive mindset and a strong motivation to take on new challenges. As a collaborative team player, you are able to integrate quickly and effectively into a multidisciplinary group of experts.

You have excellent organizational skills and write experimental protocols with accuracy. You are proficient in the use of standard IT applications (MS Office, MsNova), scientific literature databases (SciFinder, Reaxys), chemistry software (ChemDraw), and electronic laboratory notebooks. You are familiar with modern tools in synthetic organic chemistry (photochemistry/electrochemistry, AI implementation). You communicate effectively in English, while knowledge of French and Dutch would be considered an asset. Previous industrial experience is preferred but not essential.

Your Responsibilities

As an (Associate) Scientist in Organic Chemistry, you will work under the supervision of a scientific lead, in this position your role will include:

  • Design and perform multi-step organic syntheses to produce target molecules for drug discovery and development (from mg to g).
  • Purify compounds using automated flash chromatography, crystallization or other appropriate techniques.
  • Analyze and characterize chemicals using appropriate analytical techniques (NMR, HPLC, MS, etc...).
  • Contribute to the optimization of synthetic routes and laboratory procedures by identifying bottlenecks and proposing improvements to enhance yield, purity, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Document experimental procedures, data and results accurately in electronic lab notebook and reports.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment while adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Support team initiatives and contribute to the achievement of project deliverables within agreed timelines and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams, including chemists, biologists, and IT specialists, to support project and company objectives.
  • Stay informed of emerging scientific developments and actively evaluate and integrate new technologies and methodologies into the workflow.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in synthetic organic chemistry or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in organic chemistry laboratory.
  • As we are an international group, strong proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is essential for this role.
