Our Hopper dredgers (TSHD) and Cutter dredgers (CSD) work around the world on the most challenging dredging projects. Being a sailor with DEME is not only sailing from A to B. You need to work with the dredging equipment, which you can only learn by doing it.
Your responsibilities
- You will work on board a TSHD, CSD or split barge depending on your motivation and skills, under the First Mate’s supervision
- You are responsible for the watchkeeping, navigation, the dredging process, the maintenance of the dredging equipment and the daily operations on board
- You contribute to the performance of the operational activities and the optimization of production
- You maintain the safety on board
- You update navigation charts and books
- You will be communicating with the project managers, site superintendents, surveyors and local authorities. It is part of the daily job
Your profile
- You already have work experience on a Hopper dredger (TSHD) or Cutter dredger (CSD)
- You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nautical sciences or you followed an 'MBO-4' or ‘HBO’ education in a maritime academy or nautical institute
- You hold a COC (Certificate of Competency in accordance with the international convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers 1995)
- You speak and write fluent English
- You are flexible to work on projects in Belgium and around the world
- You have a valid Passport, Seaman's Book, Seafarers Medical
- You have a strong awareness of Health, Safety and Environment
- You have a hands-on and no nonsense mentality
- Preferably you already have a basic experienced in dredging
