We are looking for a highly motivated Automation Engineer to become the on-site automation specialist at a state-of-the-art European Distribution Centre in Courcelles, Belgium. This is an exciting opportunity to work with advanced warehouse automation technologies, support critical operations, and help drive Industry 4.0 innovation in a highly automated distribution environment.

As a key member of the engineering team, you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of automation solutions that enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and performance.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Execute planned maintenance, upgrades, and deployment activities while ensuring minimal impact on operational performance.
  • Support automation projects from design through go-live and operational stabilisation.
  • Enhance and support Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), manage technical escalations, and implement sustainable solutions with technology partners.
  • Introduce and integrate emerging technologies including:
  • AI and Machine Learning
  • AMR/AGV fleet systems
  • Machine vision and inspection solutions
  • Cyber-physical systems and IoT architectures
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, data privacy, safety, and regulatory requirements across automation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with engineering, IT, quality, and operational teams to deliver robust automation solutions.

Stay up to date with Industry 4.0 developments and identify opportunities to improve automation capabilities across the site.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 4 years' experience in automation engineering, robotics, industrial digitalisation, or a related field.
  • Strong interest and knowledge of:
  • Vision systems
  • AMR/AGV technologies
  • IoT sensors and edge computing
  • Smart manufacturing technologies
  • Experience with PLCs, HMI, SCADA, OEE, and Warehouse Control Systems.
  • Understanding of Computer System Validation (CSV), SDLC documentation, testing procedures, and validation plans (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Programming experience in Python, Java, C++, or similar languages is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Automation, IT, or a related discipline.
  • Experience within highly automated manufacturing or distribution environments.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell PLCs, industrial robotics, vision systems, industrial data centres, and OEE tools.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent.

Language Requirements

  • Fluent English and French are essential.
  • Dutch language skills are beneficial.
