AISB-1060 IT Project Manager – Software Modernisation & Technical Leadership

ABAKUS IT SOLUTIONS is looking for an experienced IT Project Manager with a strong technical background to lead software development teams through a major application modernisation initiative.

You will initially oversee the maintenance and migration of a legacy Windows desktop application while supporting the launch of a new, modern web-based Case Management System. This strategic transformation involves modern software architecture, secure development practices, DevOps automation and Agile delivery.

Combining project management with technical oversight, you will coordinate development teams, align stakeholders, manage priorities and ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality solutions. Depending on your experience, you may also act as a technical reference for the team.

The role offers the opportunity to contribute to both the stabilisation of an existing business-critical application and the development of a next-generation platform based on microservices, micro-frontends and scalable infrastructure.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary development teams across backend, frontend, testing and DevOps activities.
• Manage project planning, timelines, dependencies, resources and priorities to ensure successful delivery.
• Facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives.
• Adapt priorities and delivery plans in response to changing requirements, technical challenges and unforeseen circumstances.
• Communicate project progress, risks, dependencies and key decisions to stakeholders and management.
• Foster collaboration, maintain team engagement and ensure that the right tasks are assigned to the right people.

Application Modernisation & Technical Oversight

• Supervise the maintenance and stabilisation of a legacy Windows desktop application.
• Identify technical improvements and ensure compatibility with upcoming Windows versions.
• Oversee the migration of existing functionalities and support the transition towards a modern web-based solution.
• Supervise backend and frontend development, including unit and integration testing.
• Provide technical guidance on software architecture, code quality, documentation and development best practices.
• Ensure proper source control management, including Git branching strategies, pull requests and code reviews.
• Oversee the development of .NET/C# microservices and Angular-based micro-frontends.
• Support the implementation of REST APIs, gRPC services and event-driven architectures.
• Supervise CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes using GitLab.
• Coordinate DevOps activities involving containerisation, Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Ensure secure authentication and authorisation mechanisms using OpenID Connect and Microsoft 365 (O365).
• Promote secure-by-design principles, application monitoring, scalability, high availability and maintainability.

Your Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field; a Master's degree is an advantage.
• Several years of experience in software development, including hands-on technical responsibilities.
• Proven experience managing IT projects and leading technical teams in a software development environment.
• Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum, with experience facilitating ceremonies and managing delivery.
• Good technical understanding of .NET/C#, microservices architecture, REST APIs and event-driven systems.
• Experience with Angular, micro-frontends, HTML and CSS.
• Solid experience with GitLab, Git, CI/CD pipelines, version control and code reviews.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, containerisation and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with OpenID Connect, O365 authentication and PostgreSQL.
• Experience with unit and integration testing, as well as software documentation and code quality practices.
• Good understanding of software modelling using UML and BPMN.
• Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Grafana or Prometheus.
• Professional proficiency in English and active knowledge of either French or Dutch. Knowledge of the second national language is a strong advantage.

Nice to have

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Knowledge of Delphi or experience maintaining legacy desktop applications.
• Background in cybersecurity, cryptography or secure software development.
• Experience with large-scale application modernisation or migration from desktop to web-based solutions.
