Senior Software Engineer – Centrica Energy
As a Senior Software Engineer at Centrica Energy, you will design, build, and evolve the technology platforms that support our power trading operations. Working within a highly skilled agile team, you will combine hands‑on software engineering with technical leadership, shape architecture, drive engineering best practices, and mentor fellow developers.
This role can be based in our Antwerp, Belgium office.
Responsibilities
- Lead design, development, and enhancement of robust backend services and APIs using .NET C#.
- Drive technical architecture decisions and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable.
- Build and enhance desktop applications using WPF and integrate systems via Web APIs.
- Champion engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, and continuous improvement of development standards.
- Leverage AWS Cloud and Kubernetes to deliver resilient, cloud‑native solutions.
- Design and optimize data solutions using MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL.
- Implement and support event‑driven architectures using RabbitMQ and Kafka.
- Enhance observability through monitoring, alerting, and logging with Datadog.
- Drive CI/CD best practices using Jenkins, Octopus Deploy, and Argo.
- Collaborate across teams using Git, Jira, and Confluence.
- Work closely with traders, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver high‑impact solutions.
- Mentor and support less experienced engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the technical roadmap and help shape the future direction of our platforms and engineering capabilities.
Qualifications
- Significant experience developing enterprise applications using .NET C#.
- Strong expertise across modern software engineering practices, including cloud technologies, system design, and DevOps.
- Experience designing scalable, distributed systems and making sound architectural decisions.
- Passion for delivering high‑quality, maintainable, and well‑tested software.
- Enjoyment of mentoring and supporting other engineers while raising technical standards across the team.
- Confidence in partnering with business users to understand challenges and deliver practical solutions.
- Comfortable operating in an agile environment, balancing technical excellence with business priorities.
- Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Datadog, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL.
- Curiosity, proactivity, and motivation by solving real‑world problems.
- Excitement about contributing to the green energy transition.
Previous experience within energy trading is beneficial but not essential. We value strong engineering capability, leadership potential, and a growth mindset above all else.
