OT Central Engineer (SCADA) – Brussels
Location: Brussels region (hybrid) · Contract: permanent, full-time
Our client is a major international energy infrastructure group headquartered in Brussels, operating high-pressure gas transmission, storage and LNG terminal assets across Belgium. It is investing heavily in the infrastructure of tomorrow: hydrogen, biomethane and CO₂ networks for a carbon-neutral future.
Within its Real-time department, our client is looking for an OT Central Engineer to strengthen the team that designs, secures and evolves the central SCADA systems controlling its gas network.
The role
The central OT environment is the nerve centre of the gas network. From a central location, it supervises, controls and secures pressure-reduction stations across Belgium and major installations such as an LNG terminal, in close interaction with the dispatching team.
This is an engineering role, not a field or maintenance position. You will contribute to the architecture, reliability and evolution of these systems, with a strong focus on cybersecurity and OT governance. Your work directly supports the continuity of a critical network and the safety of people.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure the availability, performance and lifecycle management of the central SCADA and OT systems (servers, central networks, monitoring platforms).
- Contribute to the design and architecture of system evolutions, upgrades and new OT solutions.
- Prepare and implement changes with rigour, following strict operational procedures.
- Investigate and resolve incidents and problems, and drive root-cause analysis.
- Strengthen OT cybersecurity and governance, in line with frameworks such as IEC 62443 and NIS2.
- Coordinate with vendors, integrators and internal stakeholders, including the dispatching team.
- Take part in strategic OT projects and continuous-improvement initiatives.
Your profile
Essential
- Master's degree in engineering (industrial or civil engineer), IT, automation or industrial electronics.
- At least 2 years of experience with SCADA systems; 3 to 5 years is ideal.
- Experience in a critical environment (energy, utilities, water, rail, chemicals, pharma or similar), where reliability, availability and strict procedures are non‑negotiable.
- Solid knowledge of Linux and Windows server environments and of databases (SQL, Oracle).
- Good understanding of IT/OT environments, industrial networks and OT cybersecurity.
- Fluent in French or Dutch, with a good working knowledge of English.
Assets
- Experience in the energy or utilities sector.
- Knowledge of OT security frameworks (IEC 62443, NIS2).
- Familiarity with RTU/PLC, OPC, Modbus, CIP, ICCP/TASE.2 and historian systems.
- Scripting skills.
You are analytical, well organised and comfortable working with many stakeholders. You understand the operational impact of every change you make.
What's on offer
- A key engineering role on systems that matter, in a company leading the energy transition (hydrogen, biomethane, CO₂).
- A structured team led by a people-oriented manager, with real room to grow your OT and cybersecurity expertise.
- A very attractive salary package with extensive extra-legal benefits, including bonus, company car, generous holidays, pension plan and family hospitalisation insurance.
- Hybrid working from the Brussels region.
