YOUR TASKS

  • Your role consists of the managerial and scientific elaboration of multiple research projects, including data collection, methodological advancements and development, the organisation of consortium partner meetings etc. The research projects where you will be involved are described in short below:
    • DECOMPASS (Decommissioning Compass for Offshore Wind) is funded by the Energy Transition Fund for the period October 2025 to September 2028 and is coordinated by POM West-Vlaanderen. The project develops a quantitative assessment platform for decommissioning scenarios of Belgian offshore wind farms, integrating foundation removal techniques, port logistics, techno-economic analysis, life cycle assessment (LCA), material flow analysis (MFA) and ecological modelling of marine ecosystem services. Your task is to carry out the UGent-led work on end-of-life material flows, scenario-based LCA with circular economy indicators and critical raw materials such as neodymium, and to contribute to the definition of the decommissioning scenarios, in cooperation with the Blue Cluster (consortium partner). The research work itself will cover detailed data gathering, stakeholder input, and multi‑factor assessments.
    • ORESA (Offshore Renewable Energy Sustainability Alliance) is an Interreg North-West Europe project of 42 months, led by the Dutch Marine Energy Centre with partners from five countries. The project designs and pilots a sustainability accelerator in five national hubs, in which 25 small and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs) from the offshore renewable energy sector are trained on four themes: LCA and circularity, nature‑inclusive design, bridging sustainability with profitability, and sustainability‑related policies. Your task is to contribute to the UGent‑led training on LCA and circularity, to analyse the products and services of the accelerated SMEs with LCA and circularity metrics, and to provide training material for two public summer or winter schools.
  • You will support other research projects and the preparation of new project proposals.
  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research.
  • Cooperation within the STEN group and with the partners of project consortia is central, given the multidisciplinary nature of the research.
  • You will contribute to reports, scientific articles and the dissemination of results at conferences and workshops.
