What you will do

As an experienced UX designer, you will design user-friendly interfaces and continuously improve the user experience of applications and websites for a Belgian public-sector organisation.

You will pay particular attention to maintaining and developing the design system. You will ensure that components, patterns and guidelines remain consistent, accessible and up to date, and you will support teams in using them correctly.

Specifically, you will:

  • Participate in needs analysis and get to know the users and their environment to determine application requirements
  • Define and plan research methods and help recruit participants to gather necessary information (interviews, surveys, focus groups, user testing, etc.)
  • Propose the most suitable solution and design low and high fidelity interfaces using a mobile-first approach
  • Assist analysts and developers in designing user interfaces and ensure that the developed application meets the requirements of users and their environment
  • Ensure that the graphic design of applications complies with accessibility standards
  • Contribute actively to the design, management and maintenance of design systems and their evolution
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with clients and the team throughout projects

What we are looking for

  • Confirmed experience as a UX designer with a strong portfolio (applications without a portfolio will not be considered)
  • Experience in designing, managing and maintaining design systems
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Mockplus or similar
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and Dutch (active knowledge)
  • Active knowledge of English
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

The setting

This assignment runs for three months, starting as soon as possible and ending on 31 December 2026. The role is based in Brussels with a hybrid working arrangement. You will work full-time in a public-sector environment where accessibility and user-centred design are priorities.
