Data Protection Officer and Legal Advisor (Brussels / Entry level)

The ultimate shareholder of BBE is Byblos Bank SAL in Lebanon.

BBE is a niche bank that mainly provides working capital to corporates and trade finance services to banks established in emerging markets (Africa, Middle East, and Asia). Main responsibilities of Data Protection Officer and Legal Advisor include:

  • Providing day-to-day direction, guidance, support, advice and assistance to BBE in the implementation of the data protection framework and personal data protection matters.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of the Register of the Processing Activities.
  • Supporting BBE in performing Data Processing Impact Assessments and Risk and Control Self-Assessments.
  • Overseeing implementation of the data protection framework.
  • Drafting and reviewing legal documentation of all formats, including Loan Agreements, Letters of Credit, Guarantees, Service Agreements, Data Processing Agreements, NDAs etc.
  • Conducting legal research in banking law, data protection, contract law and corporate governance.
  • Providing support to the BBE's employees in legal and data protection domains.
  • Assessing, communicating, and tracking legal and data protection risks.
  • Developing legal and data protection templates and monitoring their use.

Desired skills and experience:

  • 1-5 years of experience in a similar position in the field of data protection and banking law.
  • Experience in data protection law, banking law, contract law and corporate governance. Experience in Belgian or French banking and data protection law is considered a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral command in English; Dutch and/or French is considered a plus.
  • Strong motivation to learn.
  • Flexibility, strong organisational skills.
  • Eagerness to take up a challenge and "can-do" attitude.
  • Eagerness to work closely with a diverse team.
