Who we are?
Volonteurope is a European, globally focused, non-profit network dedicated to achieving social justice through volunteering, active citizenship, social action and foresight. Volonteurope was established in 1981 and has 47 member organisations from more than 27 countries in Europe.
Volonteurope is active at the EU level, closely works with the EU institutions and Council of Europe, and runs advocacy activities and European projects. Topics of EU-funded projects include democracy, environment, water literacy, foresight, gender history, inclusion and diversity.
Resilience - social, climate and water resilience - is at the core of Volonteurope's operational and strategic engagement. In a time of increasing environmental and social pressures, we work to ensure that communities are empowered to adapt and thrive in the face of systemic challenges.
Volonteurope is the initiator of the European Citizens' Initiative for a Water-Smart and Resilient Europe.
Role Description
Volonteurope is seeking a creative and dedicated intern to join our team in Brussels. This is a fully paid internship that offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of social justice, climate and water resilience, and democracy in Europe. The successful candidate will assist in project coordination, research, communication, and event organisation.
Previous experience or knowledge of European water policies, human-water relations, water literacy, and water stewardship is a strong asset. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in European policy engagement at a dynamic and mission-driven organisation that is committed to building a more just, resilient, and sustainable future.

As part of this internship, you will:
- Support project coordination and research on key areas including water stewardship, environmental justice, and the social impacts of climate change.
- Assist in organising events, workshops, and dialogues with European and national policymakers, civil society leaders, activists and young people.
- Contribute to communication activities.
Requirements

- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Adaptability and willingness to learn
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media applications
- Interest in foresight and water-related activities is a plus.
- Proficiency in English is compulsory. Fluency in French is an asset.
What We Offer
- A 6-month fully paid internship, €1150 gross salary, under the Convention d'Immersion Professionnelle (CIP). Candidates must have the right to work full-time in Belgium (CIP contracts cannot be offered to enrolled students).
- Full-time position (37,5 hours per week), based in Brussels, with occasional remote work opportunities.
In addition to the above indemnity, a trainee receives:
- Pluxee meal vouchers per working day
- A monthly net teleworking allowance
- A contribution to home-office public transport costs
- Accident insurance
- Training, mentorship, and career development opportunities, including workshops and networking with EU institutions and civil society leaders.
- Travel opportunities within Europe.
- First-hand experience in developing and managing EU-funded projects (Horizon Europe, CERV, Erasmus+).
- Networking opportunities with leading EU-wide networks, as well as national and grassroots NGOs across Europe.
Depending on the funding secured and the organisational fit, there is a possibility of the internship developing into a longer-term role with Volonteurope.
