As Senior Manager, you will lead the Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) Team, within the External Affairs Department. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the industry's engagement with EU policymakers, healthcare officials, patient groups and other stakeholders to advance MedTech Europe's strategic priorities.

This role will ensure that members' views are represented, industry challenges are addressed, and key policy trends are monitored to inform strategic decision-making.

The Senior Manager will collaborate closely with internal teams, member companies, and external stakeholders to provide expert insights into regulatory and policy developments. By fostering a deep understanding of the implications of relevant policies, the role will help shape organisational strategies and align actions with industry priorities.

Together with the broader MedTech Europe team, the Senior Manager will represent the association's positions at industry events and within policy discussions, building and maintaining strong networks across the sector. The ideal candidate is a proactive professional with strong analytical and project management skills, capable of navigating the European policy landscape and advocating effectively on behalf of the organisation.

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the political, economic, and regulatory landscape within the healthcare industry, along with expertise in the policy frameworks governing Europe.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team leadership & development

  • Lead the GAPP Team, setting clear objectives aligned with MedTech Europe's and the External Affairs' priorities, and ensuring the objectives are met.
  • Manage team resources effectively, fostering collaboration, skill-building and professional development. Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and smooth transitions of new team members.
  • Contribute to budget development.

Strategic Engagement with EU Institutions

  • Build and maintain relationships with EU institutions and engage them on horizontal priorities of MedTech Europe.

Advocacy and policy analysis

  • Provide advice on advocacy strategies for MedTech Europe priorities, to Subject Matter Experts within the organisation.
  • Ensure that policy actions by Subject Matter Experts are coordinated.
  • Monitor policy developments and identify key stakeholders and opportunities.
  • Analyse EU initiatives relevant to the medical technology sector, assess potential implications of upcoming legislation or policy and ensure effective and timely response of the organization.

Stakeholder engagement

  • Prioritize and deepen engagement with relevant stakeholder groups.
  • Strengthen MedTech Europe's role in multi-stakeholder platforms.
  • Build impactful relationships with the patient community.

Member Engagement

  • Enhance engagement with the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) and other member groups.
  • Maintain strong dialogue with key members.

External engagement

  • Represent MedTech Europe with members as well as institutional and other external stakeholders.
  • Manage consultants' relationships to ensure deliverables are effectively met within the agreed-upon timeframe and budget.

SKILLS & COMPETENCES

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Masters' degree in European Affairs, European Law, Political Science or healthcare related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant EU public affairs experience engaging with the European Institutions, in particular with the European Parliament.
  • Experience with current healthcare related legislative topics is an advantage.
  • Fluent in both written and conversational English is required; fluency in a second European language is an advantage.
  • Availability to travel.
  • Experience in health, in particular in in vitro diagnostic and medical devices is considered a plus.
  • Effective communication (written and spoken) with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication and advocacy abilities, with demonstrable writing and messaging skills.
  • Confidence and credibility in engaging with senior stakeholders.
