**Role Overview**

**We are looking for**:
The Strategic Plans & Intelligence (SPI) team is part of Solvay’s Corporate Strategy team. The SPI team is responsible for:

- Developing strategic plans (Value Creation Plans) in co-creation with GBUs
- Strategic foundation phase: Develop transparent fact base
- Incl. business definition, market/competitive landscape, business performance, customer NPS, future-back / scenario stress test
- Mandate decision phase: Identify range of strategic choices (WtP, HtW). Define full potential. Support decision on strategic imperatives and ambition setting
- Mobilization phase: Support development of mobilization plan
- Identifying external evolutions to understand and anticipate Solvay performance
- Provide regular view on market, customer, competitor and economic evolutions
- Develop group segmentation (market & chemical categories)
- Identify external evolutions to take strategic action
- Facilitate transversal market & focus topic groups to exchange intelligence
- Deliver intelligence for focus markets & topics
- Identify external evolutions to define new value pools for the group in co-creation with R&I
- Serve as center of excellence for intelligence across Solvay
- Indicator databases, reports subscriptions, intelligence best practices, networking, tools, external associations,

The intern will contribute to overall strategic plans & intelligence team activities. The content of the internship can evolve depending on specific project activities and requests at the time of the internship
This can include the following tasks (non-exhaustive):

- Take part in a strategic project and perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis (e.g. competitive benchmarking, chemical value chain mapping, market & sustainability trends, market model, business performance). Visualize your findings and use crisp written communication with focus on: messaging, zero defect, consistency. Interact with the GBU and other stakeholders
- Develop market intelligence based on both qualitative and quantitative research: extracting and analyzing industrial and macroeconomic indicators (e.g. production and sales indices), visualizing extracted data in clear, concise graphs, developing qualitative insights by analyzing market reports
- Find relevant news and diffuse it to key stakeholders in the group. The relevant news can be related to financial results, M&A, partnership, sustainability, market trends, research, industrial footprint,
- Analyze market indicators and run scenario models to alert Solvay’s businesses on market evolutions
- Contribute to the marketing foresight and trend watch activities of the team: improvement of Solvay in-house Foresight tool (clustering algorithms, newsletters, etc.) and to the user support, writing regular news blog posts for focus markets & topics

**You will bring**:
Soon or newly graduate of a master degree in preferably in business or chemical engineering.
- Must-have skills_
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills, able to operate in a project-oriented context
- Knowledge of tools to find & analyze information, and use of Microsoft Office (incl. Powerpoint, Excel)
- Human qualities: output-driven, quick, flexible and organized, rigorous, curious, good communication skills, strong capacity for analysis and synthesis.
- English
- Nice-to-have skills_
- Programming languages (Python, SQL,..), data management
- French & Dutch knowledge

The internship can be done either in Brussels, Belgium or in France (Lyon, Aubervilliers). The start date is September 2023 (can be flexible) and has an intended duration of 6 months.
