Artistic Assistant

**ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS**

Meet the general conditions of V.106, V.107. and V. 148 of the Flemish ‘Higher Education Codex’ of December 20, 2013, regarding access to posts:

- be a national of a member state of the European Union or of the European Free Trade Association (derogation to this is possible in accordance with article V.107 of the Codex, which states: "By way of derogation [...], in the interest of teaching and research, the University College Board may also appoint as members of the staff, based on a detailed justification, persons who are not nationals of a member state of the European Union or of the European Free Trade Association.");
- enjoy civil and political rights;
- hold a required certificate of competency;
- have conduct consistent with the requirements of the intended office;
- Hold a master's degree or one officially leveled, or recognized as equivalent.

**DESCRIPTION OF THE POST**

Five interdisciplinary research clusters form the heart of KASK & Conservatorium's research community. As an Artistic Assistant, you will work on a doctoral research project in the arts and commit to one of the research clusters where you will actively contribute to a stimulating research environment together with other researchers.

The full-time appointment consists of 70% research and 30% teaching assignment within your area of expertise.

After an initial 2-year term, the progress of the research will be evaluated; a second and third term of 2 years each, will start after favourable evaluations.

**Tasks**
- You conduct a doctoral research project in the arts at KASK & Conservatorium, in collaboration with Ghent University.
- You share your research results in presentation moments.
- You communicate about your own artistic work and research, in written and other forms.
- You take on a teaching assignment at KASK & Conservatorium, in a course unit that ties in with your own artistic expertise.
- You contribute actively to the research culture of KASK & Conservatorium and to the functioning of the research cluster to which you commit yourself.

**Profile**
- You continue to develop an artistic practice or design practice with (inter)national resonance.
- An enquiring attitude is at the heart of your artistic or design practice, prompting research into your own discipline or at the interface of multiple disciplines.
- You are able and eager to communicate about your artistic work and research, through discursive means, both to an audience of peers and to the broader arts field.
- You are keen to collaborate and interact with other artistic researchers.
- You are able to employ pedagogical skills that enable you to create a strong learning environment in which students learn to create in an investigative manner.
- You build positive professional relationships with your colleagues and supervisors.
- As part of your teaching assignment and in light of internationalization efforts, you communicate fluently in English and are prepared to obtain the required language certificate (B1 English) in the first academic year of your appointment.
- The administrative language of the school is Dutch. You are willing to obtain the required language certificate (B2 Dutch) within five years.
- You show commitment to the pedagogical project of KASK & Conservatorium in particular and to HOGENT in general.

**Offer**

We offer 4 full-time statutory appointments of 100% each in a vacant position, starting no earlier than 1 October 2024. The appointment is initially for a period of two years, renewable twice for periods of two years based on positive evaluation.

In addition to public sector seniority, private sector seniority can also be taken into account. It is granted on the basis of employment certificates or artistic portfolio and after examination of your case.

Commuting by public transport is reimbursed within Belgium. If you come by bike, you will receive an allowance. We also offer you an internet allowance of €20 per month, an attractive leisure offer and staff ID with additional benefits.
