Thales Belgium SA, Belgium competence center of Thales, is a company located on 2 sites, one in Tubize (near Brussels) and the other one in Herstal (near Liège). Thales Belgium, which employs more than 280 collaborators, is specialized in the design, development and supply of critical information systems for customers in the sectors of Defense, Security (including Cyber) and Aerospace.
**Mission**:
Within the Engineering Department of Thales Belgium (Herstal site), you will manage in a motivating and inspiring way a team of eight made of design engineers, draftsmen and configuration managers. You will report to the Head of Engineering.
Your team contributes to the development of new products from the blank sheet (smart rocket launchers, guided rockets, ) and support the standard products in the catalogue. Your team is responsible for the mechanical design (3D-CAD, dimensioning, choice of material, surface treatment, tolerances, 2-D drawing), the Engineering Change Request/Order (ECR/ECO) process and ensure that the definition data package is correctly configured.
Your team work closely with the Product Design Authority and the Industrial Engineering teams.
**Main Responsibilities**:
- You work closely with the team (coaching, design, drawing and configuration approval), yet on the other hand you empower them to develop their level of autonomy;
- You allocate the work, ensure correct prioritization and track resource utilization levels across the team;
- You ensure efficiency of the team through objectives management and KPI dashboard;
- You ensure the development of the team (skills management, coaching, career development, mindset) and the adequacy with the expected needs (quality and quantity) at the right time based on Bids and Projects plans;
- You provide budget and schedule estimates for tasks assigned to your team for Bids and Projects;
- You ensure that all aspects of the discipline (practices and tools) are controlled and stable;
- You organize and are responsible for the Change Control Board;
- You ensure the capitalization and sharing of knowledge and assets (building blocks, cost estimating models, best practices, etc.);
- You foster continuous improvement based on root cause analysis, problem solving, new practice deployment,
- You participate to technical reviews for problem solving and development projects.
**Profile**:
- 10+ years of experience in an Engineering or Operations Department oriented towards Mechanical Discipline;
- Proven experience in people management, team management and being able to understand the challenges the team is dealing with;
- Good interpersonal and good communication skills towards stakeholders;
- Proven experience in a mechanical discipline:
- Develop mechanical product from conceptualizing new product ideas through sketching, creating models and developing engineering designs with focus on manufacturability and production cost;
- Review drawings for accuracy, perform engineering design analysis and engineering approval for construction drawing, including draft standards and geometric, dimension & tolerancing (GD&T) specifications;
- Experience or knowledge in the followings is a plus:
- Mechanical manufacturing process
- Configuration/Change management
- Product Lifecycle Management (Windchill software environment)
- Composite materials
- Design-to-cost
- Military and aerospace standards and recommend practices
- Interest or experience in Agile/SCRUM methodology and JIRA tool;
- Ability to build and promote a positive workplace where you share feed-back culture and invest in the development of your team;
- Solution-oriented and Agile mindset, ability to take and meet commitments;
- Must have a methodical approach to problem solving;
- Support and encourage innovative ideas, create and give space for curiosity;
- Strong communication and influencing skills;
- Able to switch from day-to-day management activities to strategic thinking and long-term vision;
- Fluent in French.
