**RESPONSIBILITIES**
Within BASF Seed and Traits R&D, genome engineering refers to generation of genetically modified plants. The Plant Genome Engineering group in Trait Research combines state-of-the-art genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation expertise, as well as are highly experienced in workflow-based operational organization aimed at mínimal cost and timelines while ensuring required quality. Plant Genome Engineering is embedded in a research department that focuses on trait discovery, engineering and evaluation. For the Plant Genome Engineering group in our R&D Innovation Center in Gent (Belgium) we are looking for an enthusiastic Junior Technician.
What you can expect:
- In this role you will be part of our Plant Genome Engineering group and support delivering on R&D projects at a competitive cost, speed and quality.
- As a Junior Technician, you will be hands-on involved in the execution of research projects related to genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation.
- You will be involved in technology development and platform innovation as well as in workflow-based operations as directed by your supervisor.
- You will execute your work independently, in alignment with the team goals and execution plan set by your supervisor.
- You will record & compile experimental data and report to your supervisor and in the relevant databases (Ceres).
- You will develop and broaden your technical skills and increase your ability to plan tasks efficiently and autonomously.
- You will act in compliance with the relevant company standards (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment, Biosafety, Stewardship,...).
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- You have a Bachelor's degree Life Sciences (or equivalent through experience) with preferably 1 year of relevant, successful lab experience.
- A basic understanding and limited hands-on experience of technical protocols related to plant genetic engineering, genome editing, tissue culture and transformation is preferred.
- You are accurate and self-organized, able to plan and organize your own work on a daily basis in line with the team plan.
- Under supervision, you are able to self-assess the quality of the materials and data you produce, and seek advice when needed.
- You have basic computer skills (Microsoft office) and affinity in learning relevant software and databases (Ceres) and have a digital mindset.
- You have effective communication skills, both verbally and written in Dutch and English.
- You are a team player.
- You are positive, enthusiastic, pragmatic and you have a getting-things-done mentality.
- You are eager to learn.
