We are looking for an Analytical (Senior) Scientist who is hands-on to join us in our Analytical Sciences Pharmaceuticals team, based in Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium

About the role

In this position, you will contribute to the advancement of our portfolio of projects entering pre-clinical and clinical phases until commercial registration, launch and throughout the lifecycle of our marketed products.

What you’ll do:

- Leading and running assigned technical work packages and transversal activities in an autonomous way.
- Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of own area of expertise to be recognized as a technical expert within own function.
- Developing and validating fit-for-purpose analytical methods according to QbD principles (risk assessment, DoE, modelling) for API’s, Drug Product and In-Process Control (IPC).
- Driving a matricial team of analysts.
- Supporting Drug Substance and Drug Product Process Development.
- Working together with Product Development department in order to develop best suited formulations and establish clinically relevant specifications.
- Transferring analytical methods to relevant commercial QC and manufacturing units and participating to their lifecycle management.
- Ensuring release and stability testing of API and DP clinical batches from phase I to phase III.
- Ensuring release testing of raw materials, starting materials and intermediate of synthesis.
- Participating to the daily bench activities as well as supervising activities performed externally.
- Providing high quality documentation of all technical work performed in the laboratory.
- Actively participating to project meetings as well as internal scientific meetings.
- Participating to the implementation of new state-of-the-art analytical methodologies and process improvements.

Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
- Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Analytical Chemistry).
- At least 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry is required.
- Expertise in small molecule and/or peptides analytical method development.
- Expertise in key analytical techniques such as : liquid and gas chromatography, automated and manual dissolution techniques, mass spectrometry, Karl Fischer,
- Expertise in Drug Substance (DS) / Drug Product (DP) development support and associated analytical strategy.
- Knowledge of the statistics linked to method capability understanding, validation and transfer.
- Detailed understanding of USP, EP and JP Pharmacopoeias.
- Detailed understanding of regulatory, GMP and safety environments.
- Understanding of QbD principles applied to method development is a plus.
- Good command in both French and English (spoken and written).

Soft skills:

- Demonstrated motivation for laboratory work and hands-on experience with analytical instruments.
- Demonstrated capacity to work in collaboration with external resources.
- Ability to find technical solutions and activate all appropriate internal /external experts to solve the issue.
- Ability to efficiently translate acquired data into knowledge answering the project needs.
- Ability to independently manage scientific tasks in order to meet deadlines within given constraints in resources, e.g. headcount, equipment, time, etc.
