**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCES**:

- Medical or paramedical background with minimum 3 years of professional experience in a humanitarian or development environment
- At least 1 year of experience in team and project management
- Experience in organising trainings and learning or adult education is an asset
- Experience working in MSF field locations is highly preferred

**DESCRIPTION**:
**_Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organization that provides assistance in more than 60 countries to populations in distress, to victims of natural or manmade disasters and to victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination and irrespective of origin, religion, creed or political affiliation. _**

**INTERSECTIONAL SURGICAL **TRAINING**: DEPUTY PROGRAM COORDINATOR **- BERLIN, BRUSSELS OR ABIDJAN (M/F/X) - MSF BELGIUM**:

- MSF is looking for a Deputy Program Coordinator with experience in Program management, training/or pedagogy to work with the MSF intersectional surgical training program (ISTP)._

**CONTEXT**:

- As a medical humanitarian emergency organisation, the provision of safe surgery is a core part of MSF’s mission and identity. The number of_**_ surgical projects_**_ that offer surgical care_**_ and the number of surgical interventions has been steadily increasing over the past years. In 2019, MSF performed 112,000 surgical interventions across all five Operational Centres._

**_The diversity of surgical projects is increasing_**_, ranging from rural hospitals, providing essential life
- and limb-saving surgery, to more specialised projects for more complex reconstructive and paediatric cases. In addition, MSF runs dedicated Trauma Centres, addressing the needs of victims of intended and unintended violence, principally in the context of active conflict._
- This operational strategy around surgical care requires an adapted surgical workforce. MSF Surgeons need to master an adapted set of surgical competencies and skills, reaching from broad to specialised, from obstetrics to vascular interventions. While all these interventions are performed under various degrees of resource constraints, the ambition of the organisation is to maintain strong standards of quality of care. For this purpose, MSF decided to invest in a targeted training for its surgeons that aims to _**_improve and broaden their surgical skills to increase the safety and quality of surgical care_**_ _**_for MSF patients._**_ This training aims to serve the need for the entire MSF movement and is coordinated through all the MSF offices._

- The ISTP is implemented by the MSF Academy for Healthcare and the Berlin Medical Unit in close coordination with all the MSF Operational Centers. The ISTP team consist of a team based in Cape Town (South Africa) and the program Directors based in Belgium and Berlin coordinated by the Program manager based in Cape Town South Africa._

**_The ISP Deputy Program Coordinator is a new and exciting role that will oversee the development of the surgical workshop in French-speaking Africa (probably Abidjan) and support the organization of training for Yemen, Afghanistan and other middle eastern countries with MSF surgical projects. The purpose of the role is to take the lead in the practical organization of the workshops and support with onboarding of participants to the workshop._**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- **ENSURE THE PLANNING, DESIGN AND PRACTICAL ORGANIZATION OF THE SURGICAL WORKSHOP IN FRENCH-SPEAKING AFRICA (PROBABLY ABIDJAN). COORDINATION WITH ALL STAKEHOLDERS, ORGANIZING THE LOGISTICS AND ADMINISTRATIVE NEEDS.**:

- Join the assessment team, then elaborate the design and implementation strategy to organize a surgical workshop that is based on the experience of the MSF workshop organized in Germany.
- Establish a possible location in Abidjan to hold the surgical workshops, and arrange and prepare the facility as required by the surgical workshop concept.
- Be responsible for the administration and logistics management of the workshop activities.
