**OVER DE UGENT**
De Universiteit Gent is een van de belangrijkste onderwijs
- en onderzoeksinstellingen in de Lage Landen. 15.000 medewerkers en 50.000 studenten maken dagelijks het motto “Durf Denken” waar. Kwaliteitsvol onderwijs, internationaal gewaardeerd onderzoek en een pluralistische maatschappelijke verantwoordelijkheid kenmerken de missie van de UGent.
**OPDRACHT**
Dit voltijds ambt van docent tenure track wordt ingevuld bij de vakgroep “Dierwetenschappen en Aquatische Ecologie” (Faculteit Bio-Ingenieurswetenschappen). Achtergrondinformatie m.b.t. het loopbaanbeleid van zelfstandig academisch personeel en de functieniveaus kan teruggevonden worden via deze link. De kernactiviteiten zijn academisch onderwijs, wetenschappelijk onderzoek en wetenschappelijke dienstverlening binnen het domein van de duurzame dierlijke productie, dierfysiologie en -voeding. Hierbij wordt specifiek beoogd om een brede basiskennis rond de anatomie en fysiologie van dierlijke organismen te integreren binnen de kernexpertise van de vakgroep Dierwetenschappen en Aquatische Ecologie en in het bijzonder in aansluiting met het Laboratorium voor diervoeding en kwaliteit van dierlijke producten (Lanupro), zoals beschreven in de inpassingstekst.
**Academisch onderwijs**
De onderwijsopdracht van deze docent situeert zich binnen het ‘dier’-gerelateerd onderwijs aan de Faculteit Bio-ingenieurswetenschappen, in eerste instantie binnen de opleidingen industrieel ingenieur en de MSc in Aquaculture, bij uitbreiding mogelijk ook binnen de opleiding bio-ingenieur. Het nieuwe mandaat moet de betrokkenheid en aanwezigheid in deze opleidingen, in het bijzonder BSc in de biowetenschappen, versterken. In concreto zal de docent verantwoordelijk of medelesgever zijn in volgende opleidingsonderdelen:
- Dierkunde: morfologie & systematiek (1e BSc biowetenschappen - 4 STP - studiefiche NL; studiefiche Eng);
- Fysiologie van het dier (2e BSc biowetenschappen: landbouw
- en tuinbouwkunde, voedingsindustrie - 5 STP - studiefiche NL; studiefiche Eng);
- Voortplantingsfysiologie (2e BSc biowetenschappen: landbouw
- en tuinbouwkunde (afstudeerrichting plantaardige & dierlijke productie) - 4 STP - studiefiche NL; studiefiche Eng);
- Physiology of Aquatic Organisms (1e MSc in Aquaculture - 3 STP - studiefiche NL; studiefiche Eng).
Onderwijstaal van de 3 eerstgenoemde vakken is Nederlands. Het laatstgenoemde vak wordt in het Engels gedoceerd.
**Wetenschappelijk onderzoek**
De Vakgroep Dierwetenschappen en Aquatische Ecologie bestrijkt expertisedomeinen m.b.t. verschillende functies van dieren voor de mens en evaluatie van antropogene invloeden op het leefmilieu in functie van een optimale en duurzame exploitatie. Veilige, gezonde, kwaliteitsvolle en duurzame dierlijke productiesystemen, diervoeding en dierlijke producten zowel van terrestrische als aquatische oorsprong staan centraal binnen het eerste domein, naast alternatieve dierfuncties voor (bio)medische toepassingen. Binnen het tweede thema ligt de klemtoon op de ecotoxicologische evaluatie en het duurzaam beheer en gebruik van op water gebaseerde ecosystemen. Van de kandidaat wordt verwacht dat een onderzoekslijn wordt uitgebouwd die een versterking vormt van en complementair is met de kernexpertise van de vakgroep in het domein van toegepaste dierwetenschappen binnen een context van duurzame dierlijke productiesystemen. Volgende 4 elementen vormen de basis van de vakgroepexpertise binnen dit domein: milieu
- en klimaatbewuste diervoeding (terrestrische en aquatische organismen), verteringsfysiologie en de rol van microbiota hierin (terrestrische en aquatische organismen), vleeskwaliteit en rol van dierlijke producten in de voeding van de mens en datagedreven diervoeding en diermanagement. Deze nieuwe onderzoekslijn dient daarnaast complementair te zijn aan de expertise binnen de vakgroep door inbreng van ervaring of onderzoeksmethodiek die mogelijkheden in het onderzoek rond immunologie, toxicologie of aquacultuur versterken. **Wetenschappelijke dienstverlening**
U werkt mee aan de interne en externe dienstverlening van de vakgroep Dierwetenschappen en Aquatische Ecologie. Naast ruime wetenschappelijke dienstverlening wordt eveneens betrokkenheid verwacht m.b.t. dienstverlening in het kader van onderwijs(kwaliteit), in het bijzonder binnen het kader van de opleidingscommissie Bachelor of Science in de biowetenschappen.
