**Who we are supporting**

The NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) is responsible for providing secure and effective communications and information technology (IT) services to NATO's member countries and its partners. The agency was established in 2012 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

The NCIA provides a wide range of services, including:

- Cyber Security: The NCIA provides advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect NATO's communication networks and information systems against cyber threats.
- Command and Control Systems: The NCIA develops and maintains the systems used by NATO's military commanders to plan and execute operations.
- Satellite Communications: The NCIA provides satellite communications services to enable secure and reliable communications between NATO forces.
- Electronic Warfare: The NCIA provides electronic warfare services to support NATO's mission to detect, deny, and defeat threats to its communication networks.

Overall, the NCIA plays a critical role in ensuring the security and effectiveness of NATO's communication and information technology capabilities.

**The program**

**Assistance and Advisory Service (AAS)**

The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is NATO's principal C3 capability deliverer and CIS service provider. It provides, maintains and defends the NATO enterprise-wide information technology infrastructure to enable Allies to consult together under Article IV, and, when required, stand together in the face of attack under Article V.

To provide these critical services, in the modern evolving dynamic environment the NCI Agency needs to build and maintain high performance-engaged workforce. The NCI Agency workforce strategically consists of three major categorise's: NATO International Civilians (NIC)'s, Military (Mil), and Interim Workforce Consultants (IWC)'s. The IWCs are a critical part of the overall NCI Agency workforce and make up approximately 15 percent of the total workforce.

**Role Duties and Responsibilities**

Database administration
- Performs routine installation, re-configuration, backups of database and related products on on-premises and cloud environments.
- Develops and configures tools to enable automation of database administration tasks.
- Defining and implementing an upgrade strategy to keep the DB platforms up to date;
- Keeping up to date Software Lifecycle (roadmap) management of database products;
- Monitors performance statistics and create reports.
- Analysing the customer requirements, estimating the cost of implementation and Operation/ Maintenance of the requirements;
- Identify and investigates complex problems and issues and recommends corrective actions.

Systems installation and removal (HSIN8)
- Undertakes or supervises complex installations and deinstallations of systems or components, including handover to the client for on-premises and cloud environments.
- Develops procedures and standards for installation and handover to maintain and improve the installation service.
- Schedules installation work around client priorities and resource availability.
- Ensures adherence to established safety and quality procedures.

Database Management System (HTS0485) - Level 4
- Creates a system to improve the security and efficiency of the database management system.
- Develops a theoretical understanding of a database management system, including issues and considerations.
- Designs standards and policies to regulate database management system activities.
- Monitors database management system industry trends and market directions.
- Elaborates and presents information on issues and solutions for a wide range of database management system projects.
- Leads in the establishment of best practices for the database management system.

**Essential Skills and Experience**
- Required to have an expert knowledge on Microsoft SQL server with HA/DR support as main DBMS technology currently in use;
- Current and in-depth knowledge and practical working experience of Microsoft Windows server operating systems (latest versions) in a LAN-based client-server environment using Active Directory Services/LDAP;
- Practical and recent working experience of Unix/Linux operating systems, as well as MS Windows Servers;
- A good understanding of more advanced architectures like server clustering and virtual infrastructures;
- A good knowledge of the issues and techniques of information processing and web services and storage facilities, including practical analytical experience of IT servers and system architecture implementations;
- Strong problem solving and analytical capabilities allowing to analyse database related problems including the ability to think beyond the database space;
