**Context**:
Within our Legal department we have a team that focuses on the Data Protection and within this team there are 3 data protections experts. To ensure the work-life balance of the team we are looking for an additional Data Protection Lawyer.
As you will be part of the larger Legal department, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with other inhouse lawyers and contribute to the further development of the legal department.
The team dynamics can be described as really positive with a “can do” attitude. They maintain a high professional standard, but always with a human approach in mind. The Data Protection Lawyers report to the Data Protection Officer, who directly reports to the Group Head of Legal.
**Your Position**:
As a Data Protection Lawyer we can offer you a job with a variety of responsibilities, amongst them:
- Various digital project where you can work on as a team to ensure compliance with GDPR and privacy legislation (including assessing privacy by design/default, contract reviews, etc.)
- Support the development of internal data protection policies and related guidelines and procedures.
- Assist in the maintenance of the processing register
- Develop and maintain data privacy charters in line with business practices
- Support and carry out Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Data Transfer Impact Assessments (DTIAs), Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs)
- Monitor compliance with the GDPR by conducting controls and support the reporting towards the Data Protection Officer and the Management
- As and when necessary, liaise with external law firms and specialists in relation to privacy and GDPR matters
- As an expert, monitor and stay well-informed of the legal/regulatory developments impacting your field of expertise and in particular in relation to the banking and finance sector
- Provide day-to-day advice in all matters related to privacy and GDPR
**Your Profile**:
What are the skills and achievements that we consider as “must have” to get considered for this position as a Data Protection Lawyer?
- A Belgian Master’s degree in Law
- 3 years of experience in Data Protection Law with an active contribution to implementation of GDPR
- Strong communication skills in Dutch with a good understanding of French and English
- You consider yourself as a critical and analytical thinker who’s able to understand quickly business issues and requirements.
Which skills do we consider as “nice to have” in order to get even faster up to speed in this function?
- Some years of experience in a leading Belgian Data Protection law firm.
- A natural interest in IT and a good understanding of ICT security
- Next to Dutch a fluent professional knowledge of French as well to interact with everybody in the group.
