**Industrial Biotechnology (IB)**
Biotechnology is at the forefront of transformative, cutting-edge and research-intensive scientific advancement. Developing innovative food and feed, supporting sustainable crop cultivation and providing alternatives to fossil-fuel derived products are areas where industrial biotechnology can deliver for Europe.
EuropaBio, the voice of Europe’s dynamic biotechnology industry, is currently seeking a motivated Director to lead its Industrial Biotechnology team.
EuropaBio offers the opportunity for an ambitious public/government affairs professional to develop their expertise in a director-level association role, in a context where cutting edge technologies like biotechnology play an increasingly important role in Europe’s sustainability, competitiveness and resilience.
The Director leads a team of two colleagues (Industrial Biotech Manager and Coordinator).
**The role**
- Develop and oversee implementation of the IB Council’s public affairs and advocacy strategies, linked to an enabling policy and regulatory environment for IB-derived products and processes plus prioritised EU Green Deal Initiatives, working closely with the EuropaBio Industrial Biotechnology team and directly with association members.
- Analyse legislative proposals and develop positions, responses and constructive pathways to achieve member outcomes. This includes, as relevant, collaboration with external stakeholders and alliances/coalitions to develop common positions.
- Deliver on greater visibility, integration and acceptance of industrial biotechnology products and processes.
- Represent EuropaBio activities into the Board and Industrial Biotechnology Council, building a direct partnership with association leadership and Board Members.
- Build relationships across institutions and extend the reach and impact of EuropaBio messaging, continuing to grow as a Key Opinion Leader and voice of industry
- Represent EuropaBio in external activities across EU institutions and develop further networks and relationships linked to Council priorities.
- Lead the team work on the organisation of the yearly EFIB conference, with focus on programme development and speaker outreach but also including communications (led by EuropaBio comms team) and close liaison with external contractor for logístical and organisational aspects.
- Manage the Industrial Biotech budget
- Support and review the professional progress of the industrial biotechnology team within EuropaBio and ensure continued learning and development and acquisition of new skills, together with support from the senior management team.
- Must have full permission to work in Belgium
- Good practical knowledge of EU public affairs, acquired through 4- 7 years of work experience, including minimum of 3-4 years working with industry (directly or indirectly) with an understanding of commercial drivers behind public affairs
- Demonstrated skills in EU public affairs, advocacy and communication. A good understanding of biotechnology / industrial biotechnology, biobased products and the bioeconomy is a plus.
- Proven track record of experience of working with policymakers and stakeholders in Brussels, with comprehensive institutional knowledge

**Terms and conditions**
An open-ended contract (CDI), 40 hours/week
