**Job description**:
The Laboratory of Interneuron Developmental Dynamics (headed by Lynette Lim) is part of the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research and is located on Campus Gasthuisberg, Leuven, Belgium. Our lab is interested in the developmental programs that shape inhibitory circuits in the brain. Specifically, we are interested in how distinct populations of inhibitory neurons are generated and mature to generate functional circuits. To this end, our work combines various interdisciplinary techniques such as mouse genetics, high-content imaging, single-cell RNA sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics technologies.

The Lim lab is looking for a full-time research technician to work on neuronal development.

Brains are composed of a multitude of neuronal cell types that assemble into specific functional circuits. Elucidating how a small number of neural progenitors could generate the vast diversity of cell types remains a major goal in neuroscience and developmental biology. In our lab, we are interested in understanding the molecular mechanism of neuronal diversification. We focus on cortical GABAergic interneurons as this large repertoire of cell control and fine-tuning local circuits and developmental defects often is the underlaying cause of neurodevelopmental disorders. Together with a postdoctoral fellow, you will work on an FWO Odysseus grant-funded project (5-year duration) to examine the role of metabolism in driving interneuron diversification. Teamwork and collaboration with other members of the lab will be expected.

**Responsibilities**:
The function is responsible for independently performing:

- in vivo mouse work, including intracerebroventricular stereotaxic injections, in utero electroporation and viral injection, mouse trans-cardiac perfusion and brain microdissection, tissue preservation
- molecular biology and biochemistry techniques
- in vitro cell culture
- histology techniques including vibratome section preparation, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization and confocal microscopy imaging
- light/confocal microscopy
- data processing, including data analysis, data interpretation and presentation.

Finally, the function is also responsible for performing various general laboratory tasks such as general maintenance, replenishing consumables and ordering additional materials and reagents.

**Profile**:

- Required:_
- You possess at the minimum a degree in Biomedical or Biological Sciences (Professional Bachelor/Master/Engineer) or equivalent.
- You have a general knowledge of laboratory techniques, including experience in making common lab buffers, experience in molecular biology and immunohistochemistry.
- You have a FELASA B license for animal work and experience with animal handling.
- You are a team player who works very accurately, is result-oriented, independent and has a positive work attitude.
- You have good organizational skills and keep good records.
- You are willing to learn new techniques and protocols.
- You are fluent in English (spoken and written)
