**Function**:
**Mission**
The R&D Data Scientist will work in project teams, in close collaboration with production, maintenance and technical sales on industrial R&D problems.
Projects cover all areas of steel production from mineral processing to ironmaking, steelmaking, rolling and galvanizing. The composition of project teams is adjusted to project needs and scope.
The R&D Data Scientist will have opportunity to contribute to a number of different projects on product and process development.
**Main responsibilities**
- Development of machine learning models based on real production data.
- Contribution to research and development projects aimed at new product development or optimization of production processes.
- Computer programming for coupling and integration of different tools, visualization and data processing.
- Contribution to development of external partner network, both from academia and industry.
**Profile**:
**Background**
- MSc in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics or a PhD in a technical field (Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy) with substantial experience in data analysis and modelling.
- Knowledge and experience in data modelling for industrial production processes. Experience in steel industry would be a plus.
**Skills**
- Strong experience in some of the following areas:
- Visualization and Data Processing (Python, Matlab, Origin, etc).
- Advanced statistics (e.g. Python, R, Matlab).
- Machine Learning (e.g. Phyton, Matlab, RapidMiner).
- Tools for deep learning, neural networks and related frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, CNTK, Pylearn2, Caffe, Theano, etc).
- Computer Vision.
- Demonstrated experience in computer programming.
- Experience in coupling and integration of different tools would be a plus.
- Languages: Excellent English / French is a plus.
**Additional Skills and Competencies**
- Demonstrated experience with business insight, collaboration, customer centricity.
- Be at ease navigating through a large and complex corporate environment.
- Strong communication skills.
