OPEN TO NATO INTERNATIONAL CIVILIAN STAFF ONLY
**1. SUMMARY**
The Defence Investment (DI) Division is responsible for facilitating the development and adoption of cutting-edge, innovative and interoperable capabilities, critical to ensuring the Alliance’s ability to undertake the full spectrum of missions and operations. Key lines of effort include:
- leading the development of major complex capability programmes in the land, maritime, air and space domains - including on Air and Missile Defence, Alliance Future Surveillance and Control capability (follow on to AWACS), Air Command and Control (Air C2), Joint Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (JISR) assets and other critical Consultation, Command & Control (C3) networks - and in doing so addressing all policy, political-military, technical and practical aspects;
- leading NATO’s policy and engagements in the aviation domain;
- pursuing interoperability through prioritised standardisation efforts, developing with Allies new approaches to operational challenges, supported by a commitment to operational experimentation and innovation;
- maintaining the Alliance’s technological edge through exploring and driving adoption of emerging and disruptive technologies, with a particular focus on autonomous systems;
- facilitating multinational cooperation in capability development through a series of specific initiatives tackling critical capability requirements;
- unders tanding, adapting to, and pro-actively addressing climate change;
- informing and responding to the Alliance’s evolving capability needs through the NATO Defence Planning;
- providing oversight to NATO Agencies involved in capability development and delivery (in particular NATO Communication and Information Agency and NATO Support and Procurement Agency)
- working with a range of key stakeholders within NATO including the Strategic Commands and externally with NATO Partners and relevant international and regional organisations including the EU, as well as with industry and academia.
The Strategy Directorate is responsible for enforcing overall coherence of the NATO capability delivery process, in close cooperation with other stakeholders in the Headquarters and the Strategic Commands. It specifically supports the work of the Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD) and coordinates support to its subordinate structures, focusing on the collaborative development, acquisition and standardisation of military equipment. It aims at identifying opportunities for cooperation between interested nations to share risks and costs of development, to share Research & Technology and to achieve economies of scale, industrial cooperation, standardisation and interoperability.
The incumbent will carry out the duties of Assistant for the Deputy Assistant Secretary General (DASG) / Director, Strategy Directorate. S/he is accountable for efficiently handling a wide range of support duties of an administrative and organisational nature and ensuring the smooth operation of the DASG’s and Strategy Directorate’s office.
**2. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**
**ESSENTIAL**The incumbent must possess:
- a good general education at least to higher secondary level complemented by relevant higher education;
- at least 4 years' professional experience of administrative and organisational work or a similar role;
- demonstrated experience in minute taking and report drafting;
- experience in organising conferences or programme administration;
- knowledge of, and experience in budget management;
- demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, resilience and flexibility under pressure and be adept at working in small groups;
- demonstrated excellent verbal and writtten communication skills;
- the following minimum levels of NATO’s official languages (English/French): V (“Advanced”) in one; III (“Intermediate”) in the other.
**DESIRABLE**The following would be considered an advantage:
- knowledge of NATO structure, organisation and working procedures;
- experience within multidisciplinary and multi-cultural environments.
**3. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES**
**Planning and Execution**Administer the DASG’s schedule; assist with day-to-day administration, arrange meetings and handle related details such as necessary travel arrangements, mission coordination, coordinating leave plans, as well as overseeing financial management of assigned budgets. Organise own workload to ensure the accurate and timely execution of duties. Review and monitor documents submitted to DASG and remain aware of DASG’s priorities.
**Knowledge Management**Collect, categorise, and track relevant information required for various tasks and projects. Maintain well-structured paper and electronic filing systems. Record, distribute and follow-up on tasks for the Directorate from the ASG DI (including those from the Private Office) and those generated by the DASG.
