Media & Podcast Officer

As a team member of the Communications & Outreach Department you will be a key member of a globally-focused, innovative media team. In particular, you will develop and manage relations with the media, coordinate podcasts and lead on the production of media analytics. You will be a meticulous and quick originator of inspiring and diverse English-language written material for publication and use on social media channels on behalf of both the organisation and field analysts; an editor of written work by other colleagues; oversee the production of Crisis Group newsletters; and help ensure that the organisation’s public positions are well-represented in influential international media outlets. You will be based in one of our offices with flexibility to work remotely.
**Responsibilities**
- Assist the media team’s day-to-day operations, relations with reporters, planning occasional media events and roundtables, and promoting leading publications and Crisis Group analysts;
- Prepare and publish media releases and pre-releases, Crisis Group’s Weekly Update, and other written contributions for global and regional media outlets to showcase Crisis Group and to advance its policy recommendations;
- Lead in the production of statistics from media monitoring tools, Google analytics and social media and prepare them for internal and external use;
- Assist in preparing and implementing media launch strategies and other communication plans;
- Analyse media trends in coverage of conflicts worldwide and identify new opportunities to raise Crisis Group’s profile and messages, including via social media;
- Contribute to expanding and maintaining Crisis Group’s main media contact list database;
- Monitor media coverage of Crisis Group and its staff and assist in the production of impact metrics;
- Coordinate the production of podcasts, including working on texts and supervising relevant resources;
- Supervise interns as relevant.
**Requirements include**:
Essential:
- University degree or significant experience in journalism, international relations, conflict studies or related field;
- Proven relevant communications experience;
- Ability to write short, quick, and accurate summaries of complex and highly sensitive material;
- Ability to understand and process data and analytics;
- English language fluency;
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, open office environment and a highly collaborative team;
Highly desirable:
- One-three years’ experience in professional writing, media relations, editing or publishing, ideally related to conflicts or humanitarian crises;
- Experience and familiarity with common online social networking networks and tools;
- Strong interest in international relations and solving conflict.
