**Introduction**:
The NATO Emerging Security Challenges Division’s Data and AI Policy Unit (ESC/DAIP) located in Brussels, Belgium coordinates the delivery of NATO’s Data Exploitation Framework (DEF) Strategic Plan and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy. In the light of these activities, the ESC/DAIP is looking for a data scientist to the following tasks:
- Delivery of Data Exploitation Jump Starters. The Jump Starters will aim to improve data availability, accessibility, and quality, with an initial focus on the Alliance priority use cases of the DEF Strategic Plan. The Jump Starters will help build data exploitation capacity and increase data literacy across NATO organizations.

- Implementation of selected Data Exploitation and AI use cases. These Alliance use cases help identify opportunities and allow future activities to be prioritised, without inhibiting the potential for data initiatives in non-priority areas. Data exploitation use cases in the following areas are put forward as priority: Cyberspace Situational Awareness, Publicly Available Information Analysis for Situational Awareness, Resilience Assessment, Geospatial Analysis, Archiving and Information Management Automation, Space Analysis, Maritime Situational Awareness and Multi-domain Operations.
**Skills, knowledge, experience required**:
- BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field, graduate degree in Data Science or other quantitative field is preferred;
- At least 5 years’ of practical experience in the field of data science;
- Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau), data frameworks (e.g. Hadoop), data programming skills (e.g. R, SQL and Python), data visualization/analytics software packages and development environments, such as ArcGIS, KNIME, AWS, MS Azure, or similar;
- In-depth knowledge of the execution of tasks similar to the ones specified in this SOW, including data mining, pre-processing of structured and unstructured data, data analysis and visualization, employment of data algorithms, NLP, and machine-learning, as well as understanding broader issues concerning the responsible development and employment of Artificial Intelligence;
- Excellent drafting, communication and presentation skills in English, including at senior level.
**Desirable**:
- Analytical mind, business acumen, and rapid problem-solving aptitude;
- Data analysis experience in resilience, geo-spatial, military C2, political decision-making, and/or hybrid threats;
- Knowledge of NATO responsibilities and organization, including ACO and ACT.
**Duties/role**:
- Providing services under the guidance and supervision of ESC/DAIP;
- Supporting ESC/DAIP with the delivery of the tasks defined in Deliverables;
- Reporting regularly (weekly) to ESC/DAIP on the progress of the work;
- Collaborating and coordinating work closely with all identified stakeholders across the Organization as well as with Allies;
