The Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) is a regional chapter of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM), the **largest global network of 11,500+ cities** taking ambitious climate and energy action. CoM SSA is built on the political commitment of over **320** **local governments** and is a major catalyst for local climate action in the region, with a focus on **boosting resilient and low-emission infrastructure**. CoM SSA is supporting local governments in moving from planning to implementation, with an emphasis on unlocking climate finance at the local level.
Since January 2019, the initiative is **co-funded **by the European Union, the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID). It is **jointly implemented by four European Member State Organizations** namely GIZ, AECID, AFD and Expertise France and is supporting the **Team Europe Green Deal initiative**, BMZ’s Agenda 2030 (protecting the planet) and Vision 100, as well as the African Union Agenda 2063. The GIZ support team to the initiative is looking for an Outreach and Impact Advisor to liaise with cities and other local governments, coordinate with implementing partners and the Secretariat initiative, and monitor the results and impact of our actions. Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the advisor will support the team on the strategic and operational dissemination of information, outreach to stakeholders, and the development of campaigns to raise awareness about the activities and outcomes of the GIZ support to the CoM SSA initiative.
**We are looking for a Public Relations Advisor at CoM SSA (M/F/d) for our team in Brussels starting ASAP.**
**The responsibilities of the position include**:
- Support in-country teams in their co-creational activities, providing strategic advice on outreach to key stakeholders and priority communities
- Conceptualize, organize and execute both online and in-person events, often liaising with partners to promote joint activities including relevant stakeholders from the donor environment as well as from partner countries
- Ensure that engagement and communication processes around project activities are gender inclusive and build connections with local civil society and activist organisations
- Monitor activities as required by the project funders, including using online reporting tools and written reports describing project activities and progress
- Lead on knowledge management for the project, including support to internal communication processes and the filing and storage of resources and outputs of activities (using MS Teams and other relevant programs).
- Serve as the focal point for the dissemination of messages via the external channels of CoM SSA (website, social media, newsletters ).
- Respond to additional tasks or responsibilities, following the needs of the project, required from the Team Leader in order to reach the outreach and visibility goals of CoM SSA.
**Profile**
- Master degree, preferably in the area Urban planning, Sociology, or Communication.
- At least five years of professional experience in drafting outreach or awareness campaigns, professional use of social media, ideally in the context of urban climate/clean energy.
- Strong proven writing skills required
- Proficient in written and spoken English (comparable to C2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is a requirement. Knowledge of German or another European language such as French, Spanish or Portuguese is an asset.
- Prior experience in climate / environment / circular economy / nature-based solutions, or experience with local administrations/ cities is a strong asset.
- Work experience in developing countries (especially in Africa) is a strong asset.
- Prior experience on the monitoring and evaluation of a project using tools (such as OPSYS, WebMo etc.) is an asset
- Hands on, creative, highly motivated and result oriented personality.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multi-cultural team and liaise effectively and sensitively with different stakeholders.
- Experience engaging with diverse communities through inclusive communications and engagement processes is an asset.
- Strong digital skills including good knowledge of Microsoft 365, TEAMS and Sharepoint
We offer a temporary contract with GIZ in Brussels under Belgian law (PC200). The position will be remunerated according to the level of experience. In addition to the legal holidays, you will receive 5 extra days of holiday per calendar year, as well as lunch checks, health insurance for hospitalization, the reimbursement of a monthly ticket for Brussels public transport/or bike compensation and the possibility for home office in accordance with our respective policy.
