**Duties**:
Serves as chauffeur assigned to the Brussels Marine Security Detachment.
Driving on errands—delivering documents or messages, reacts—and other duties as assigned. Assists in handling baggage or light cargo up to 40 lbs per bag.
Cares for vehicles, including cleaning inside and outside of vehicles whenever needed. Generally this will require at least two car washes and vacuuming twice every week, and at least two car polishing (by hand) every year. During important visits or in bad weather, daily car washings will be needed.
Responsible for reporting any problems in mechanical condition of vehicles with enough accurate detail that fleet manager can quickly determine source of problems. Responsible for noting any possibly hazardous vehicle conditions directly to the supervisor in writing, unless immediate remedial action is taken or unless car is removed from service until such time as the repairs can be completed. Reviews basic mechanical condition of vehicles, proper level of oil, radiator water, battery water, and air in tires (including spare), that all lights work, etc., before taking vehicle out onto road. Checks each vehicle driven to see that all the proper documents are in glove compartment (insurance record, European accident report forms, etc.). Such check must be made before driving vehicle; deficiencies must be remedied before driving (checklist on back of trip sheets). Maintains logs on vehicles.
**Qualifications and Evaluations**:
- Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years of experience as a chauffeur or as a driver in commerce or public transportation.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Close familiarity with Brussels area and general familiarity with roads throughout Belgium required. Elementary knowledge of auto mechanics required. Valid driver’s license C required. Total knowledge of traffic code required. Knowledge of how to act and react in case of accidents.

Lower secondary school required.

LANGUAGE: Working knowledge in English, French and Dutch. This may be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to drive safely at all times not only vans and sedans but most Embassy vehicles (License B & C). Ability to use two-way radio correctly and with fluent English pronunciation. Ability to observe and conduct elementary safety/maintenance checks of vehicles according to list on reverse side of trip sheets. Ability to map-read/utilize GPS. Ability to remain cheerful and pleasant with all passengers, regardless of late hours or fatigue. Ability to remain discreet and not repeat any overheard passenger conversations. Ability to pass rigid annual medical chauffeur examination in accordance with Belgian Law. Ability to refrain from smoking while in U.S. vehicles and buildings. Must maintain neat personal appearance, including clean, pressed uniforms, shirts and shined shoes. Must be able to work on rotating shift schedule.
