**Senior Legal Counsel Belgium & The Netherlands **(M,F,X), Gent**
**Location
The position will be located in Gent, ArcelorMittal Gent offices close to Zelzate
**Reporting to
General Counsel Belgium & the Netherlands
You will be Senior Legal Counsel within the ArcelorMittal Group Legal & Compliance organization, and as member of the Belgian legal team be the legal business partner to the Belgian and Dutch ArcelorMittal legal entities in their business activities. You will take the important legal advisory role to advise the business in the broad spectrum of its industrial, commercial and financial operations of these companies. The ambitious and strategic technical transformation of the steel making production explains the intense reliance upon the legal team.
As member of the European legal team, you will create the added value by providing legal advice and by drafting contracts for cross border projects. You will contribute to synergies of the Belgian and European legal organization by developing legal trainings, template of agreements and by the launch of new legal knowledge exchange and digitization initiatives.
You demonstrate strong project management skills and leadership qualities.
**Responsibilities**
Specific accountabilities and responsibilities include:
- Primarily acting as trusted senior legal advisor in Belgium & the Netherlands. Proactively providing sound and pragmatic counseling, at the same time minimizing and mitigating legal risks.
- Advising on a wide variety of commercial and corporate matters, with a particular (but not exclusive) focus on the areas above.
- Delivering training to the business teams on a variety of legal and compliance related matters.
- Actively participating and supporting international legal initiatives of ArcelorMittal. Regularly sharing best practices, new challenges or developments, innovations and efficiency related projects.
**Profile Description**
**Competencies:
- 10 to 15 years of work experience on a wide-range of legal matters in the area of, partnerships and JVs, investment, commercial and corporate law, environmental and energy law, with a particular focus on setting up complex projects and transactions.
- Experience in an (inter)national law firm or (international) company is a prerequisite.
- Fluent in Dutch, English and in French.
**Education:
- Master’s degree in Belgian Law.
**Skills:
- The willingness and capability to be a “hands-on” lawyer, with a proactive, energetic and enthusiastic approach.
- The willingness and capability to analyze and solve complex legal issues.
- The willingness to develop a thorough understanding of and familiarity with ArcelorMittal, ArcelorMittal’s businesses, its people, markets, facilities and customers.
- Strong communications skills: ability to effectively communicate in an international environment, with various stakeholders;
- Stress-resistant, flexible and open to embracing changes (future forward looking mentality).
**Travel
- The position will be located in Gent (ArcelorMittal Gent offices close to Zelzate), but you might have to travel from time to time in Belgium (and occasionally abroad)
